During Just Cause a ground unit found a rib cage wrapped around a tree. Seems some unfortunate dude ran the wrong way just as an AC130 fired a 105 at a building. Talked to one of the gunners reviewed the video. He said the ground guys called for a hit on the bottom corner of a building. They fired and supposedly missed. Fired again and took out the target. Reviewing the tapes the first round seemed detonate before it struck the target. Frame by frame showed the guy run by, stop and reverse directions. Can't imagine a more instantaneous death...or worse luck.
Well that is one way to earn "they/them" pronouns, by being blasted into atoms...
At a Civil War reenactment years ago, a youngster asked a grizzled Confederate artilleryman who was swabbing the bore of a 12 pounder: "Sir, why did they call these cannons Napoleons?". To which the artilleryman replied with a grin: "Well, if ya' unfortunate enough to be caught in front of it, you'd be Blownapart!"
