Im planning on a coyote only 22-250 I have a chance to pick up a bergara b14 crest carbon. The only thing i question is the 1:9 twist rate on a 55gr. Does anyone have input on this? Would like some feedback before I pull the trigger.
9 twist is fine with a 55 gr. If the 55gr doesnt hold together and gets spun apart by a 9 twist then it is truly a trash bullet. Shoot a better bullet.
velocity*(720/twistrate)=rpm
So something like 3700fps is where you would have to get the bullet up to before I would start worrying at around 300k rpm with lesser bullets.
Are you worried that 9 twist is too much, or not enough?
If you're worried about over-spinning / bullet blow ups, it's not quite as simple as twist & speed. Different bullets are constructed differently and will have different RPM limits. Also, the roughness of the bore, especially the throat area will play a role.
FWIW: I shoot the 53 v-max through a 9 twist at over 3900 FPS, and it hasn't been a problem. In fact, it's awesome.
