I sent my 24" 5R back to Scott at sniper country px. I will be shooting 99% at 600 and closer, and I really wanted a very accurate "Hunting" rifle, as well as punching paper usually at 1-400yds, since it's all I have by my house. I was just wanting input on anyone owning the 20" threaded version, and it's accuracy v/s the 24" if any. Seems the 20 would be stiffer, and maybe a tad more accurate. My other question is... Can I still get to a grand? Varget still good for 20"? Scott was great, ad looked through 5 rifles, and picked the one that looked best. I hope it will shoot the 175's as I ordered 1000 of them. Any input highly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Another 5R on the way. Changed to 20" (Shooters?)

BTW I have an SPS in 243, and VSSF in 22-250, and the 26" is great for bench only, but it sucks for stalk n hunt, or packing in for an all nighter. That's why I chose the 20", I hope they are shooters, like the 24's are supposed to be.

Please somebody lmk if these 20 inchers are shooters or not, lol. Now I'm worried again. Wanna sleep good, lol

Re: Another 5R on the way. Changed to 20" (Shooters?)

I woudln't worry about 1k. I personally have no experience with them. But that's what I took mine down to when I sent it off to GAP. After talking to Ken and reading a shit ton on here it should be good to go. If I recall right in a .308 the powder is burnt at 16 or 18 inches. Like I said no real world handling of one yet, but from that info I picked up should be G2G.

Re: Another 5R on the way. Changed to 20" (Shooters?)

The bullet will fly to 967 yds then fall out of the sky. So no it won't make it to 1000.

Just kidding it will make it. Just make sure your scope has enough clicks/holdover available to make it.

Re: Another 5R on the way. Changed to 20" (Shooters?)

My Lord you guys are something else, lol. I had tears in my eyes after "it will make it 967, then fall" much less the video. Thanks again guys. I love this forum (except the shout box) Those guys are a bit touchy to noobs, with a ? WOW! Thanks as always, I'll post pics, and groups as soon as she's here, and ready to throw lead. No break in for me, I think I wore a Hart 8 twist out in a 6BR using instructions that the Smith sent. "Shoot 1 clean for 10mins, 1,clean, till 10, then 2/clean to 10, and so on until I get to 5" Took me all day, and I almost said to heck with it BR sucks, until I started reading here. Anyone with a 20" lmk how she shoots.

Re: Another 5R on the way. Changed to 20" (Shooters?)

In my link on your other thread, it shows my 20" it isnt a 5r but a standard tactical. They are great to 800y the next two hundred can get sporting, depending you wind conditions.

Re: Another 5R on the way. Changed to 20" (Shooters?)

I bought one of these guns early this past spring and it's going to be my main hunting rifle this year. It was very easy to work up a .5 MOA load with 175 SMK's and 165 Nosler accubonds. I am very pleased with this rifle although mine does seem to be a little slower than other 20" 308's that I have had in the past. I am running the 175's about 2575 and the accubonds just a smidge faster, 2600 if I remember correctly. I am using Varget in both of those loads.

I sold the original stock mine came in and put it in an HS stock off of the XCR compact tactical, but I am thinking about selling that stock and dropping it in a McM HTG before hunting season.

You will like this rifle but the deer will not. Mine is going to wreak havoc on them this year, with a 30P-1 screwed on the end.

Re: Another 5R on the way. Changed to 20" (Shooters?)

I hope to supress it, but will be next yr. Be nice to hunt and not worry about ears ringing, and everybody else in the holler (hollow) sorry WNC coming out in me. Need to be looking for a good one. I have a cpl brakes I'm T&E'ing I'm gonna try and post results. Dunno about Sheriff here, knew his Dad but not him. Anyway else to get them, without too much hoopla.

Re: Another 5R on the way. Changed to 20" (Shooters?)

You will be able to go out to a 1000 and
probably more. At the last class I saw a couple of other rems there that were 20" and they had no trouble going out to a 1000. In reality the gun can do it no problem, question is can you?

Might want check on the laws about hunting with a supressor in nc first. I am not sure but I don't think you can.

Re: Another 5R on the way. Changed to 20" (Shooters?)

I think your right. Never owned one. But would be nice to punch paper, without earpro. Plus I could re-barrel it for less $ than I could supress it without all the red tape. I'll be in mkt for a brake though, Precision Arms is a new Co. and I tested a cpl on AR's and they were great, gonna try the M11 on the 5R.

Not to put a damper on any one’s personal feelings, but...

I always wanted one, until I had the opportunity to shoot next to a guy with one. Blast, no blast... but the sonic crack is not what I would call ear safe... I still would like one as it might make hearing impacts at 700+ with my 223 possible in combination with my amplified electric ear protection.
