Multiple people shot at Mormon church in Grand Blanc and shooter is down, police say

The shooting occurred at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, about 50 miles north of Detroit, local police said in a social media post. The church was on fire.

Grand Blac is the next town over from where I bought my first house after I got out of the Corps .

I heard about this hours ago but nothing I could confirm just socials chatter no details , diffrent towns were mentioned .

In my hometown (again this is like 15 years ago) a group of people went inside of an LDS chapel during the middle of a big service and started attacking people and screaming at everyone to "repent" and all that stuff. There were only a few of them but they got tackled pretty quickly from what I was told. The people that did it came from a radicalized church of some sort. Literally every single other church in my town rallied together and outright condemned the actions of a few lunatics and went out of their way to start holding joint functions from time to time. If I'm not mistaken it was some guy that traveled around 'preaching' that ultimately was the ring leader.

Wrong, but they do seem to put more emphasis on The Book of Mormon than the Bible. They used to come to my house every few months with their BoM spiel. I'd always break out the Bible and force the conversation back to that. They werent interested and I'd finally tell them, stick to the Bible or leave. They left but kept coming back.

I’m not going to get into the Book of Mormon - Bible debate. I do not know enough about Mormon’s or their distinct religion. But, I have known several people who were Mormons. They were certainly nice enough folks, who certainly don’t deserve to be murdered by anyone.

In fact, one was an aid in my classroom when I was teaching. If she hand not told me of her religion, I’d never have known.

All this said, I do worry about being in Sunday Services. However, I’m not going to abandon Christ just because leftists, murderers are trying to destroy the religion of Christianity and all those who believe. Come into our church with guns blazing. I will go down, but as long as my legs can move, I’m going to give them my best imitation of when I was a 17 year old linebacker. Not planning on living through it but it should disorientate the coward and give the others time to put him/her down.

Anyway, so, it's been a minute since I gave reason to be an object of ridicule.

My stepgrandfather and grandmother got into the Church of LDS back in 1973 or so. By the time we were leaving California (I was born in LA) in 1974, they were taking us to church. Eventually, around the age of 12, my brother and I would be baptised. We got to learn scouting and our scoutmaster was a 5th degree black belt in Kenpo Karate and taught us scouts for free. That was around 1977. Our assistant scoutmaster was an Army Ranger and brought in one of his instructors to teach how to eat off the land. Richard Crenna's line from "Rambo" brought back memories.

And I would, at the age of 14, be ordained as an aaronic priest. (There are two levels. Aaronic is like a junior priesthood and melchizedek is the adult male priesthood. As aaronic priests, we could assist with the sacrament and other duties.

Life moved on and so did we. I did not keep up with church and we could not keep up with scouting or the karate. But it was fun for a while and I knew a bunch of good people in that church (Lewisville, Texas.)

Later, I would learn that the church was and still is an object of ridicule. But that's okay. All religions have some parts that are hard to believe.

So, some think it is impossible for Joseph Smith, a known con man, to be anywhere close to correct calling native americans the lost tribe of Judah.

It interferes with their belief that a woman became pregnant with no sexual intercourse and gave birth the creator of the universe in the flesh.

But there is plenty of unanswered questions to go around.

Such as the big bang theory. So, scientists don't think there is God, who created the universe. Instead, they think the universe started with a big bang but there was nothing there before to "big bang" with. Wait...what?

But don't worry, we can equally offend other branches of religion. The reason baptists don't have sex while standing up is because they don't want anyone to think they are dancing.
