A few years back I got really interested in long range shooting and built a custom rifle, bought a SFP NF NXS which at the time I think was one of the better options on the market. Got busy with work, lost my time, and my place to shoot. Haven’t really kept up with all the changes, and now that I’ve decided to try and get back into shooting/hunting and am putting another rifle together it’s overwhelming the optic options that are on the market now.
After researching through the forum, shopping around, and looking through a shit ton of scopes as candidates I’m still relatively undecided but have compiled a short list that has the features I’m looking for. The gun I’m building will be an 18” Larue 6.5 Creedmoor UU with Larue Lower, even opted for the $399 tranquilo. Will be 50/50 hunting/target. My precision bolt action 6.5 built from a Stiller predator and hart barrel, reaches to 1000 yards+ consistently, but that will be about the absolute max I would ever want to shoot with this new gas gun. Hence why I’ve decided to limit the power of the scope for this AR10, and stick to scopes in the 3-18 range.
Features I want: moa/moa, illumination,FFP, wide field of view, zero stop if I do decide to dial a longer range target, yet have decent Reticle for hunting so I can acurately make holdover shots.
My short list:
-ATACR 4-16x42 F1
-NXS F1 3.5-15x50 (have found a couple used)
-Vortex 3-18 razor gen 2
Originally I was set on an SHV but now that I’ve looked through more I’ve changed my mind somewhat. The vortex 3-18 is just plain impressive to me and looks damn good through my eyes, I like both the razor’s range of power and the reticle over the NF offerings, but that weight has me a little concerned, should I be worried about it?
Any other scopes in this power and price range I should consider? I know Kahles has the new k318i and it sounds perfect for what I want minus the MOA, but it’s at least $1k more than these 3 and no one locally sales them as far as I know. I looked through the higher end Leupold tactical scopes and was pretty unimpressed.
