A few years back I got really interested in long range shooting and built a custom rifle, bought a SFP NF NXS which at the time I think was one of the better options on the market. Got busy with work, lost my time, and my place to shoot. Haven’t really kept up with all the changes, and now that I’ve decided to try and get back into shooting/hunting and am putting another rifle together it’s overwhelming the optic options that are on the market now.

After researching through the forum, shopping around, and looking through a shit ton of scopes as candidates I’m still relatively undecided but have compiled a short list that has the features I’m looking for. The gun I’m building will be an 18” Larue 6.5 Creedmoor UU with Larue Lower, even opted for the $399 tranquilo. Will be 50/50 hunting/target. My precision bolt action 6.5 built from a Stiller predator and hart barrel, reaches to 1000 yards+ consistently, but that will be about the absolute max I would ever want to shoot with this new gas gun. Hence why I’ve decided to limit the power of the scope for this AR10, and stick to scopes in the 3-18 range.

Features I want: moa/moa, illumination,FFP, wide field of view, zero stop if I do decide to dial a longer range target, yet have decent Reticle for hunting so I can acurately make holdover shots.

My short list:
-ATACR 4-16x42 F1
-NXS F1 3.5-15x50 (have found a couple used)
-Vortex 3-18 razor gen 2

Originally I was set on an SHV but now that I’ve looked through more I’ve changed my mind somewhat. The vortex 3-18 is just plain impressive to me and looks damn good through my eyes, I like both the razor’s range of power and the reticle over the NF offerings, but that weight has me a little concerned, should I be worried about it?

Any other scopes in this power and price range I should consider? I know Kahles has the new k318i and it sounds perfect for what I want minus the MOA, but it’s at least $1k more than these 3 and no one locally sales them as far as I know. I looked through the higher end Leupold tactical scopes and was pretty unimpressed.

Budget? Looks like the $2K+ range?
Used Premier 3-15x50
Used S&B PMII 4-16x50
Used S&B PMII 3-20x50
Used Minox ZP 3-15x50
Vortex Razor Gen II 3-18x50
Steiner T5Xi 3-15x50
Used Steiner MX5i 3-15x50
Used USO B17 3.2-17x50

What have you always wanted regardless of specs and options? Get that one

Honestly after looking through just about ever scope in the shop, and they had a damn good selection I like the vortex razor gen 2 not for glass, but field of view. it’s just so gd heavy.

the Kahles 624 looked and felt so good part of me wants to just pony up and have the shop order a k318i

This right here. Get what you want. Those scopes you listed in the OP are all top tier and any will serve you well. Don’t have regrets for not getting what you were wanting. If you are like most of us you will end up selling it here and trying something else on down the road anyway

We'd be happy to assist you

We'd be happy to have a K318i shipped to your shop, we have a couple more shipping in as Kahles Austria will be on vacation for a few weeks which they do yearly. :)

What reticle speaks to you the most? If you are OK with TMR of Horus designs, you really should look at Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18x44. I just got done testing one and I think it is a great scope for a gas gun:

My favourtite overall scope of this type is definitely Tangent Theta TT315M, but unless you can find a used one, it is a fair bit more money.

Nightforce ATACR F1 4-16x42 sorta rounds up the scopes I really like in this size and price range and it is priced right between Mark 5HD and Tangent Theta in terms of price and size, although it is a bit heavier than either.

All three are excellent gas gun scopes.

in terms of overall features im still thinking razor gen 2, the ebr2 c is also my favorite reticle. I might go ahead and buy one and if the weight is an issue ill reconfigure, they seem to be holding value pretty well if i did decide to sell it.
