I want a good SASS setup that can be used for hunting/sniper and maybe get me started into 3 gun competitions.

I have convinced myself to get a POF .308 20" the question I have is if I want to be making 800+ yd shots I shouldn't think twice about getting the 20" barrel, right? also optics for this platform around the $2k range. I am a huge fan of NF whats going to work best for 800+yd 5.5-22X56????

I wish the 5-25X56 S&B was in my price range but its not.

Click the link in my sig (or click HERE) for an idea of how I configured my own 20" P308. Do you need a 20" for 800yd shots? Not at all as a 16" barrel will suffice. The NXS is a great optic and I've no doubt you'll be happy with it.

If I were you, I'd be sure to get the HSR rail system rather than the MRR predator rail system.

Re: Another POF 308 noob?

Had a DPMS LR308 TAC-20. Very accurate (sub-MOA). Very reliable.

I thought I would "upgrade" to a POF 308 after hearing great things about them. So I sold the DPMS and bought a 20" POF 308

The P308 was a piece of art. Very well made. Loved the piston action. Very reliable. Shot very erratic though. Could not get it to shoot consistently. Could not get any help from POF either. They would never return my calls or emails.

People here at the Hide were helpful but I could never get it to shoot as well as my DPMS. I could also always get a hold of someone at DPMS for questions etc. Some people just said it was me and that I didn't know how to shoot a gas gun. I shot my DPMS pretty consistently so I don't know. Does having a piston make that much of a difference?

So anyway the POF is gone and once again I have a TAC-20 that I can shoot sub-MOA all day long. And it cost 1/2 the price of a POF.

Other people have had good luck with them and I am just sharing my real world experience. The biggest turn off was buying a $2,500 gun that I could not get any support from the manufacture. DPMS gets slammed a lot but at least they answer their phone and emails.

Re: Another POF 308 noob?

I guess there is a fair amount of people that got problematic rifles from POF, I was wondering if this was pre-2011 I guess that when POF started having issues with Hogan. I guess I should feel very luck for the unit I got is solid and shoots .5 inch @ a 100. I haven't really shot it for a month since I'll be putting in a new scope so didn't want to waste ammo. But the production date was 4/11 and it shoots flawlessly with surplus 147 grain, 168 BTHP and M118LR. The owners out there should compile production dates to see when the problems were seen the most.

Very few here will slam my Fat ass or my DPMS.LOL. LR .308 24" fluted. SUB...SUBMOA. I used to do the 600meter, Ft. Hood, my peepee is bigger than yours weekend shoots. Never placed worse than 3rd and was only shooter with a gas gun. BHM 168's. Now it has a better barrel and leaves me wanting for nothing. Anybody can shoot this gun and group well with it. With a shooter this thing performs miracles.HAHA.

A <$15 yellow trigger spring and a DPMS will hold it's own against any .308 gas gun. My former POF is owned by someone that doesn't even know what he's got cause I too could not get it to shoot real good. made room for another DPMS

Mine was 2010 vintage I believe

What are the Hogan issues of which you speak?

Nice rifle by the way. As I stated I loved everything about the rifle except the way it shot

Re: Another POF 308 noob?

I use my guns. Scratches dirt and debris linger on all of them. some cost 200 and others 7500. These rifles are pretty and functional and the fit and finish is unreal. I like shooters though. JUST MY OPINION.
