Another reason I hate pro baseball players

Re: Another reason I hate baseball

Jesus H, What a self serving asshole! I need a shower now just from having read that sickening pap...

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">McGwire's decision to admit using steroids was prompted by his decision to become hitting coach of the St. Louis Cardinals, his final big league team. Tony La Russa, McGwire's manager in Oakland and St. Louis, has been among McGwire's biggest supporters and thinks returning to the field can restore the former slugger's reputation.

"I never knew when, but I always knew this day would come," McGwire said. "It's time for me to talk about the past and to confirm what people have suspected."

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig also praised McGwire, saying, "This statement of contrition, I believe, will make Mark's re-entry into the game much smoother and easier."
</div></div>

Notice his need to clear his conscience coincided with the batting coach position!

I still love baseball but aint crazy about all the pro players. I also rmember my brother storming out of the room one day enraged that I believed McGwire and Sosa were juicers. Then came the corked bat incident. Still my little bro drinks of the blessed MLB Kool Aid...

Re: Another reason I hate baseball

I somewhat believe him when he said he wanted to come clean during the congressional hearings but his lawyers told him not to because he could be prosecuted. If you remember, Congress didn't extend immunity from prosecution.

Re: Another reason I hate baseball

Instead of shit talking McGuire maybe you could thank him, Sosa, and Bonds for dragging the sport kicking and screaming out of the grave. Those three single handedly saved your shitty sport and look how you repay them. So they used a bit of dope, big fucking deal. Baseball is entertainment...so be entertained.

Jesus, whiny baseball fans are nearly as annoying as whiny baseball players.

Re: Another reason I hate baseball

They didn't save dick, Baseball is bigger than the major leagues, I owe them nothing, they can blow me

Re: Another reason I hate baseball

George Jr. would most likely have taken them if they'd been available at the time.

Pro sports needs to change.

When some yahoo can make more money and become a bigger role model to America's youth for hitting a fucking ball than say a soldier fighting to liberate an oppressed people can, then we've got our priorities way out of whack.

If they had to rely on my ticket and merchandise sales, they'd hardly have enough money for bus fare.

Re: Another reason I hate baseball

I agree with what Queequeg said. Baseball is bigger than MLB. I enjoy our local Triple-A club and nobody outside the metro knows a single player's name. To me, baseball is almost a religion, but my Dad coached for 40+ years at our local highschool. I could keep score in a scorebook and quote the infield fly rule before junior high. So be it, that some bozos took juice to improve their physique. You still gotta be a hell of an athlete to hit & catch in the pros. I just hate that we, as a society, allow them to be lifted to the "role model" level.

Really?

So we should thank all of the bleeding heart pussy coward liberals in Hollywood as well because they're only there to entertain us? So that gives them a right to shove their opinions down our throat? I don't have to like it and I don't have to contribute to their existence. Same thing with MLB. I don't go to MLB games, I don't buy fan merchandise and I don't have to "accept" their lack of morals and ethics.

I am not entertained. I'll stick with High School and College. Baseball is bigger than the MLB.

I don't even think baseball is truly a sport. I think it's a competition. But that is for another topic.

Not just the players, but everything to do with pro baseball. That is when it went from a game to me to a business. I barely pay attention to it on the sports highlights anymore.

Re: Another reason I hate baseball

Remember standing there, waiting on your pitch to come, needing to hit, not walk; a little afraid of taking one in the head, trying to outsmart that asshole pitcher who told you all day at school he was going to bean you tonight? Remember the feeling when the rocket just missed your head? Or when you crushed it between short and second?

Or the sound and feel of the ball snapping into your glove on a summer afternoon, thrown by your grandad, who once caught a homer hit by Gehrig when the Yanks visited Fenway...

Re: Another reason I hate baseball

I remember one pre-season game sitting with some music industry big-wigs who make more in a year than I'll make in my life time. They were one coked up lead singer or shot up dead rapper away from a stress induced heart attack.

But there they were, sitting on the third base line of a game that essentially meant nothing, drinking beer and reliving their childhood. The only music came from the occasional crack of a wooden bat. Baseball gave them a day in the sun, no stress, no worries.

That's what I love about baseball.

I was in a small town restaurant eating lunch one day when I saw a framed poster on the wall. It was a recreation of the famous Blues Brothers movie poster. There were Mark McGuire and Jose Canseco doing their best Ackroyd/Belushi impression sitting on the hood of an Oakland PD squad car. The poster was titled "Bash Brothers." The only thing missing was Tony LaRussa and a couple of used syringes.

That's what I hate about baseball.

I'm with you Mike, however I'll go as far to say that pro sports as a whole are the definition of greedy douchebaggery. I only watch college sports anymore, and sure, there are some college athletes and coaches that do some shady stuff. On the other hand, there is way more true competition than in the pros. Most of those kids will never make it to that level and they are playing more for the love of the game and maybe a bowl/championship/whatever victory. Once each of the pro leagues went on strike I was done with them. Little pissy babies whining over the thought of their $3, 6, 18 million/year contract not being enough to sustain them. If I made that much money, I could play for 3 seasons and be set for life. F*&^ 'em.

Rant off.
