According to deputies, an employee in his 20s, was inside the range working on a hunting rifle when it went off. A bullet went through the wall off a small range house and hit the victim, deputies said.

So, it's a beautiful day out, gonna hit the range right? Walking in the parking lot like any swinging dick does, and then all of a sudden you're dead cuz some dude was fucking around with a rifle with a round in the chamber inside the main office.

Shitty luck on that one.

Wow that’s some shitty luck....I mean think about all that just happens to line up to put you in that exact place at that exact moment........shit some asshole buying a lottery ticket at the gas station in front of you could have made the difference in you living or diying that day.

Hi,

Well shit bad luck for sure!!!

The State has "wanted" that gun range land for a long time now since it runs right along side a super busy highway. Looks like they will be getting that land for pennies on the dollar now......

Sincerely,
THEIS

I hope not. That range sucks, but it's close to my office. I can't imagine they won't get sued out the ass for that one, though. All because some asshat didn't follow the simple rules for handling guns safely. What a dick.

I've been to this range, once. Somehow I'm not super surprised something like this happened.

When I was there, shooters were not allowed to go down range when the range went cold. As I remember it, a range officer came around and collected the targets to be posted and went down range with them. The patrons sat at their shooting benches with their rifles and ammunition, patiently waiting for the range officer to complete his task. Now, don't get me wrong, there is no absolutely foolproof way to absolutely prevent some numb-nuts from shooting while the range is cold, but separating the shooters from their firearms is a start.

I tell this story not because it directly relates to the incident, but because it illustrates the general safety outlook of the range...

This is one of the reasons I volunteered to work as an RO ar my
local public range , to avoid / maybe prevent something like this
from happening . I have a reputation for being a bit of a cunt about
some safety issues .

At a cease fire , the RO walks the line visually inspecting each rifle clear .
Range gets closed , shooters can then move forward to replace targets .
Shooters are required to stand back behind a line clear of the benches .

You would not not believe the number of fuckwits that cannot follow this simple
instruction . Anyone who goes near a rifle gets barked at . Do it twice and you
leave the range . Point anything at me , and you eat dirt : simple .

If it's an outdoor range with dirt berms, they're not going to want to pay for the cleanup before it can be used for any other purpose.

I would have sworn you were the RO at a range I use here. I saw this RO run up to a guy and tackle him for carrying a pistol in hand up the sidewalk. Apparently "all firearms in a case, no exceptions" didn't apply to said individual who was dropped.

So, was he trying to cause an accidental discharge? Or was he trying to get shot in self defense at the range? My point being, assaulting the wrong person can have dire consequences. Whether you get injured, or possibly aggravate an injury of theirs. Do it to a disabled person, and you are looking at all kinds of trouble.

I believe the RO tackled him since he had a handgun, in hand, as he walking up to the range. If I saw it before the commotion, I may have taken from that the same idea the RO did. He assumed since there was no cases or shooting items, just a guy walking up with a handgun, he may have had some nefarious plans.

I couldn't see a reason to tackle someone for that.

Around here some ranges require firearms to be in cases out to the bench, some require firearms to be out of the case with the slide locked back, bolts open, or cylinders out, some don't give a shit either way. There's no standard, and the rules are different everywhere you go. Top that with the fact rules are usually placed at the entrance to the main office, it's easy for a first timer to fuck up at least one range rule.

He's Australian......they freak the fuck out at the sight of handguns in most circumstances.
