I posted a question a couple of weeks ago about my rifle going off when I slam the bolt. I was told to move the sear screw. I have now fixed that problem but now I have a lot of creep. I thought the over travel screw would fix this but it didn't. What do I need to do now?

Re: Another Shilen Trigger question

Creep is caused by too much sear engagement. So when you adjusted it you added too much. Over travel is just what it sounds like, one the trigger breaks the over travel adjustment stops the trigger from continuing to the rear.

Thanks for the replies. I noticed earlier that the rifle will still go off if the bolt is slammed. Now I have an unsafe trigger with a lot of creep? This is why I need to let a gunsmith work on stuff instead doing it myself. I should have left the over travel alone. I will read the article from the link and try again.

How light are you trying to set the weight of pull ? Sometimes if the weight of pull is set too low there is not enough tension on the spring to correctly reset the sear/trigger engagement. This is specially true if you have the weight of pull set to the very low end of the adjustment.

Last but not least, give Ed a call at Shilen Rifles Inc. I've always been very impressed with their customer service and if the trigger is defective, I know they stand behind their products. I've been building weapons for over 10 years using their components and have yet to have a part that was not top quality.
