Anschutz 54 or 40x?

Re: Anschutz 54 or 40x?

40x will be a cost of near 2k buy the time u r donw. Look for an Anschutz MPR in .22LR or even a Kimber SVT in .22LR. TAC rails are available for the SVTs from USO an a few other places.

Re: Anschutz 54 or 40x?

Ill take two, too.

Actually, you cant go wrong with eighter for inherent accuracy as long as they are in good condition. Now for "benchrest" the Anschutz 54 will have the better trigger even over the Jewell IMO, now the question you need to ask is: What stock and rest set up is going to meet the rules in the matches you are shooting in, and then which do you like the best.

Re: Anschutz 54 or 40x?

both would be a great choice thus the YES, we're f'n with ya.

if i had the choice and the budget, i'd probably go with the 40x at least for the reasons of compatible accessories to the rem 700, and the history / "romance" that the 40x carries - at least as an all around top shelf .22lr

but the anschutz is born and bred to be a splendid bench rifle and has the type of goodies that make it superior in that relm.

so for a dedicated bench rifle, the anschutz

Re: Anschutz 54 or 40x?

For accuracy, I would go with the Anschutz. For commonality with the Remington 700, as Top Predator said, I would go with the 40x. Maybe you should get both.

Re: Anschutz 54 or 40x?

If I were in your boat, I'd probably go with the annie. I love my 40x, but the annies do have the best trigger and shoot just as well.

Buy both and test them side by side to see which you like best.

Re: Anschutz 54 or 40x?

I do own both kinds of rifles, both are equally accurate, the Remington tend to be less particular about the ammo. The Anschutz has a 2-stage trigger which I like for position shooting. I have Remington 40-X'x with Canjar LP, factory 2oz and Karl Kenyon triggers, which I much prefer for prone shooting. If you are going to shoot benchrest it may be difficult to get a factory heavy barrled action (Anschutz or Remington) to make weight depending on your associations rules. With all that being said, my favorite smallbore rifle is my Remington 37.

Re: Anschutz 54 or 40x?

I am fortunate to have a couple of each and the answer is not so black and white.
The 40XRBR has a benchrest stock and bull barrel from the custom shop. You would want to request the 2oz trigger or better yet replace with a Jewell.

The Anschutz whether a 2013 BR-50 or 1913 BR, have a great trigger and accuracy is on par.

My personal opinion is the 40X, just because I love the beefy feel of the action plus all the possible options from the 700 stock interchangeability.

Re: Anschutz 54 or 40x?

Yup, I was f'n with you... Ferrari or Lamborghini?

Both are used at the highest level. If no weight restrictions, I think I would choose the 40XB. The 40XB (M700 profile) is easier to accessorize with stocks, triggers, etc... but I wouldn't shie away from a great deal on an Annie either.

Bottom line is price difference will be negligible.

Re: Anschutz 54 or 40x?

+1 for the 40x.

I also like the ease to accessorize (sp) the 40x with 700 components. Just bought a 30moa base to put on to maximize my scope and didnt have to worry bout fitting..
