When I talk to the guys who have been to the sand box, in phase one you get to kill all the stupid ones and it is not all that hard. Then when only the smart one are left it is hard to find a target because they all pretend to be the nice ones until then get a chance to plant an IED. It's always funny when they bring a stick then complain when one gets hit.
Around these parts we kind of mostly as civilians have to carry a gun or a dagger etc as the metallic knuckles are going to get you in trouble and the Sap or weighted gloves are kind of really risky to carry around / use. Walking cane is fine so long as it's looking like a standard walking type stick.
I understood, while I did not really see it telegraphed, I did think he might have been a little off balance, and a skilled opponent might have been able to move so the punch missed then counter while he was off balance.

might also be beneficial to learn how to throw Palms, elbows, and knees...and learn how to block knife and baton attacks efficiently.....Krav Maga is great for this.
also a roll of quarters is a good makeshift fistload, and doesnt attract any unwanted attention.
