With Anvis seriously coming down in price, I really want a set. Having used them in the army though, I'm wary of buying them because they are so fragile... I saw an armor product but it looks like the dude that was making them hasn't logged on in almost two years. Does anyone know if some other similar product exists to reinforce the anvis housing?

Thanks,
Jeff

Night Vision Inc sells an up armored PAS. I believe he also puts in better hardware (rod and screws). You send him your Anvis and he swaps it out and sends back.

What I ended up doing with my -9 was making my own armor using aluminum angle. My PAS was cracked in half. I epoxy repaired it first and then made the armor and epoxied it to the PAS. It’s stiffer than before.

I mean you could probably just get it swapped into a better housing for like a thousand dollars, sell off the anvis housing and mounts to make a little money back.

The issue isn’t the tubes. The tubes are 10160, the same kind/format that are used in every bino that doesn’t have gain control. 10160 tubes will work in every housing unlike 11769 tubes (except modern L3’s with the removable gain pigtail).

The issue is with the objective lenses. Anvis have different threads (among other things) versus PVS-14 objectives. If you have an Anvis 6/9 and you want to use the objectives with the new bino housing, you have to select a bino housing that has an Anvis version.

That would be the Sentinel, Mod-3, RNVG (anvis option is coming per UNV and TNVC), and DTNVG.

You can’t swap Anvis & -14 objectives back and forth, so if you have an Anvis 6/9 and want to go into a stronger/different housing, you should spend the time to think about it before doing it. If you go with non-Anvis, then you’ll need to buy two PVS-14 objectives but you can reuse the tubes and eyepieces. Anvis & PVS-14 eyepieces are interchangeable.

PVS-14 objectives are cheaper and more common/available so most people go that direction. Some people (myself included) prefer Anvis objectives, while others it doesn’t matter, or they prefer -14 objectives.

So I could hypothetically buy a DTNVG housing and swap all the anvis components in? The DTNVG looks sick. Where's a good place to get a DTNVG housing?

I know UNV (Ultimate Night Vision) has had them listed before. The proper name is DTNVG-AV.

Hit up the other usual suspects (TNVC, etc.) just make sure to tell them you want the Anvis version. It might have an up charge over the standard.
