have always wanted a rifle in .257 wby mag but there just seem to be a fair amount of down sides to it.

ammo/brass costs, belted, short barrel life

what are some of your experiences?

yeah i have heard good things about the .264 win mag, or more so about bullet selection can shoot clean up to the 140 grainers i think

but something about shooting a 115 vld at 3400fps does sound appealing in the .257wbymag

Really like it. Have had a few but i always found that all of them never shot the 100 grain bullets worth a shit and to find the best accuracy i always had to back down my charges about 1-2 grains below max. but still amazing caliber.

I have four in the safe, everything from a cheap vanguard to a full custom. It is my favorite caliber for deer and wild hogs. 100 TSX to TTSX work great for me. I have a few other calibers for true long range (338LM & 300RUM), but I spend the most time hunting with a 257 WBY. Try it you will like it!

i am assuming you guys reload for it?

do you have any issues with reloading it?

what kind of case life to you get?

Re: Any .257 weatherby mag shooters on this board?

I have zero issues with mine.
Stay at 3500 to 3600 fps with the 100 grainers and 3300 to 3400 fps with the 115 grain bullets and you will see easily 6 reloads from your brass.
I have one set of Norma brass I am on my tenth reload with.

I have a Dakota 97 switch barrel that is a 257Wea some of the time. I lean on mine a bit though (3800 w 100gr TTSX) so I only get 3 or 4 firings out of a batch of brass. Lots of fun. It's a fantastic flat shooting chambering perfect for deer sized game.

Great round! Honestly, I don't reload for this round since I only shoot 20 or so rounds a year with it. A couple fouling shots at the beginning of the season and a few Elk, Mulies, Hogs or Yotes with it during the season.

My gun LOVES the 120gr Partitions. It will shoot .25-.50 easily.( I hunt at several altitudes). It has been my go-to rifle/round for California. It just friggin hits em like Thor's hammer. Everything falls to this round.

My most fun gun with this round is a Thomson Center Encore with a 30" ABS barrel with a Ti muzzle brake. Light weight gun and with the brake action you have almost 27" of rifled barrel. Shoots like a .223. You can actually see bullet impacts when shoot. RG

cool video, sounds like there is more love for the .257wby mag than i expected.

I have always been interested in it as it just seems like a go to for north america game. anything elk and down it seem like it is a solid choice.

I would love to have one of these for some hog hunting, that sounds like a good time.
