Ok so I've got 200 or so of the run n gun from SW ammo In 7.62 and unfortunately like many savages my 308 is extremely picky. The ammo shoots just fine but 1 in every 3 or so seize the bolt. Sometime's to the point of needing a rubber mallet.

Now this isn't from pressure but because of the small differences in dimensions between my 308 chamber and lake city 7.62 brass. Now my question is.... Is this harmful in any way to my rifle? I know that the brass is much softer than the steel of the rifle, but I just want to make sure I'm not damaging anything....

It's a huge hassle, so I haven't been using it... But I just wanted to know if it came down to me using it, if it's good.

Call Zack. I believe they stopped shipping the run n gun because of a problem they had with the LC brass. I went through 200 of em and maybe 1 in 20 had the same problem in my 700. Never had to use a mallet but they took a good pull on the bolt to get out. I don't think it will do any damage - it didn't to my 700 - but if it's 1 in 3...

Re: Any damage from seizing bolt?

I had problems with the first batch where it would seize the bolt even before I fired, so in other words I couldn't even cycle them. I went back to them and they exchanged it with their new batch that cycled fine (except 1 or 2 in 20 like you said)

So I've it's more of 7.62 being incompatible with my 308 and not their fault, because this happens with every 7.62 I've ever used Except American eagles for some reason.

Those differences in dimensions should NEVER make your bolt seize! You're most likely over-pressuring your rifle... Danger Will Robinson... Do not use that ammo in your rifle anymore.

No offense, but it never ceases to amaze me how something like a seized bolt will barely even slow some people down... "Just whack it with a mallet. It'll come loose". That is truly scarey. You have much larger Balls than I my friend!

Re: Any damage from seizing bolt?

I've read in multiple places that that's what happens from the different sizes......there are no other pressure signs....

Can someone else give some input on that....

I'm not sure it's lake city brass, it's stamped different. But yes your actually right, I have no problems with 7.62 fgmm or American eagles

Re: Any damage from seizing bolt?

There are no other signs of overpressure.... So there is no primer flattening or cratering or any more ejector marks then my normal brass gets.

I stopped by SW to pick up another case of their 175s and told zack about my problem. As always, they took care of it no questions asked.

So I don't have this problem anymore, but still interested in the answer if anyone knows...

cratering of the primer and excessive effort on bolt lift is another. just went thru this recently and it was a chamber issue
