Same reason I dumped my Colt Python, different manual of arms. I traded the Dan Wesson for a S&W 629 8 3/8 bbl and gave it to my brother. He wanted the Long gun.. Other than that I thought it was a quality made firearm. Mine was one of the older models. I cant remember but there were two different manufacturing sights and if you are series about purchasing someone should chime in as to these locations

It is the earlier Monson, MA guns that are considered more desireable.
I have a DW 44VH8. I initially picked it up after learning the hard way about S&Ws not holding up to the heavy loads (shooting loose) and after some research learned that DWs and Rugers had longer cylinders (for longer COAL) and were more robust. After some research I settled on the DW and couldn't be happier. Easily interchangeable barrels, adjustable cylinder gap, and built like a bunker are what won me over. I don't miss my 629s at all. My gun was a nearly NIB sample from around 1981 or so and the finish is great (Colts and S&Ws from about this period were beautiful as well) and I am sold on the DW design. Too bad the guns are no longer made, but CZ USA still sells parts so there is no worry of getting stuck with a broken gun.
