Any guys do a recent HK USC to UMP conversion?

What are the prices on the USC rifles. I don't find many for sale, and whats there seems a little high (gunbroker.com).

What are the best prices you can get on the black HK USC rifles and who sells them?

I had one before and did a UMP conversion with a sweet 4-pos 2rd burst picto lower. Sold it and have missed it ever since.

Gordan at HK Specialists usually has USC's in stock. I paid around 1100.00 for mine before the Obama scare

I sold this one earlier this year, and I haven't really missed it. I think part of that is because I used the money on some other toys. It was a fun gun to take to the range, and it never failed to get tons of attention. Even with the factory barrel chopped to 7" it was stupid accurate.

I bought mine from these guys who are local to me.

Clyde Armory

They aren't showing any in stock now, but they are a large dealer and get things in all the time.

Just my $.02, but if I were going to build another, I'd look for a lightly used gun like the one on HK Pro linked above. You could sell all the USC accessories relatively easily.

I guess I never really "got it".

What is the appeal of a pistol caliber carbine with a super short barrel?

A UMP has a tactical application due to the high rate of fire. Otherwise it's a heck of a lot easier to move around a building with a pistol.

My guess is because it looks like a real UMP that no "mortals" (including myself) can own, it carries some mystical significance.

By the way, most normal sized users of the UMP complain about the stock, so you may be able to save some money if you go with a M4 stock conversion. One of our guys has installed one on his UMP and loves it.

They're fun and easy to shoot, but it basically ends there. I have a couple MP5s - including a SD and the only "tactical" use they get is driving around the desert and shooting jackrabbits. My friends' kids love to shoot the suppressed, pistol caliber subguns, and they're easy for them to handle and on the ears. An expensive rabbit and paper slayer for sure!

A short rifle with a stock is s whole lot easier to shoot than a pistol.
Especially if you are shooting at any kind of distance

Exactly

And remember the distances that the UMP was designed for.
