Any knife gurus out there?

I have a question.
I have a 2005 brand new MOD Mark V Dwayne Deiter designed knife.
This was a 2005 Knife of the year if my memory is correct.
It's A-2 tool steel and all made in America and not the foreign made crap that came later.
It's one of the most wicked looking and fealing knives I have ever held.
I have never used it, nor sharpened it nor cut with it. It's a virgin.
Still have everything that came with it.
It has a Bladetec holster for it made specifically for it.
I'm considering selling it but have no idea what it's worth.
I used a beer bottle and a 308 round next to it to show you size of the knife.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would think (Don't know) that winning "The knife of the year" and the fact that it's no longer made would play a role in making it worth more. Plus it's much larger than this version.
But thanks for your imput.
Any more takes on this?

Sure, that would probably add a little more value to it. But the knife I linked you goes for around $200. "Knife of the year" and being from 2005, probably wouldn't bringthe price up too drastically. Not like it's antique or anything. I actually considered the size AFTER I posted the link. I would think that the size would effect the value more of "knife of the year." Poke around the site I linked a little more. You might be able to find something closer to it in size, etc. I don't really know. My sources are Google and common sense.

Thats cool Shank. Thanks for digging that up.
Some will think it's overkill but man it's made well.
It's not like the junk fantasy knives that china has pumped out.
Those cheapies and fantasy knives have soured many on larger blades.
I'm not an operator, I just like well made stuff and sometimes I don't want a little blade,... sometimes I do.
As with many of us in America, most of us don't fight or go to war but we also like the tools of war and still have many things in our arsenal that we may never use.. I bet most reading this could say the same.... Even though movies like Rambo inspired some huge knives and for most reasons they are impracticable.
I still love that big ole knife, and one of those made by a master knife builder would be awesome.
I think Sam Bowie would have agreed as well.
I love America

No wonder we call on him to crank some humor /internet spark into this site.
He's a Google-fu-master-of-the-keyboard.
Shank, has anyone ever hired you to do internet searches?
If they havn't, they should.
Nice job Shank.

Smoke, thought you might enjoy these. The two protruberances from the tang are for rappelling. They store in a waterproff compartment in the handle and there is a little storage bag on the front of the case.. Made by Buck, I took it in trade from a friend about 20 yrs ago. dont drink beer so I used my favorite red wine, Menage a Trois....as sweet as its name.

Re: Any knife gurus out there?

I have been collecting MOD knives for years and have some very rare pieces. The Mark V ATAC in that condition would likely sell (in other words, actually garner a bid and end up selling) for roughly $200.00 - $300.00 +/- on eBay. Sometimes they go as high as $400.00 but I've seen several sit and end without a bid for $200.00 too.

That model knife was offered with the option of a plain blade or a partially serrated blade and in the black finish (common) and the early (and long discontinued) bead blast matte stainless.

I sold the #3 ATAC matte stainless on eBay about two months ago for $685.00. At that same time, I had a black Mark V not even catch a starting bid at $300.00.

The Mark V was also offered in a limited edition presentation set that came with the Mark IV "Stinger" (also offered with the same finishes and blade profiles) that was serialized and very rare.

The Mark V, along with a limited number of automatics, were still being sold after last year's SHOT show, though production had ceased and was limited to stock remaining. About two weeks after the show, the stock was exhausted (gotta love the 50% off cards Blackhawk passed out during the show).

MOD doesn't really even exist anymore - according to what I was told, Mike Janich (former brand manager for MOD/Blackhawk & major knife guy) left Blackhawk and took what remained of MOD with him. Blackhawk retained a couple designs (Mark I & II) but those are no longer made in the USA and carry the "Type E" designation.

If you're planning on selling it, PM me.

I think my buddy wants to buy it but I will let you know if he doesn't. I like the knife and thats the reason I bought it. It's not a contemporary knife design but the features just work and the way this thing feels in the hand is awesome. I have owned and held many knives in my hands and have used many in different ventures and I hate when a knife doesn't feel right in the hand when you need to use it. This Mark V is probably one of the best I have held or handled. It's just a well made tool.

That made me chuckle about the rappelling part.. Would we actually trust a knife to help us slide down a cable or rope?
I think not.....I hope not.
I use climbing and safety gear all the time, in fact today.
I would pay to see someone brave enough to try that.
Thanks for that.
Hows the blade holdup when it comes to holding an edge and sharpening?
Some Bucks I have seen and owned do quite well and some of the newer generations suck.

Re: Any knife gurus out there?

Despite my wanting to buy up any MOD in like new condition, you ought to hang on to the knife unless you really need to sell it. The knife is going to really jump in value as soon as people see that they aren't popping up on eBay every week or two in excellent condition.

Thanks for the info.
I'm not real keen on selling it.
I could sell other items and keep this.
