These are made of metal and came out in April of this year. The only thing a search brings up is multiple sites with a copy/paste of LuthARs advertising copy.

On their site the mags are listed under "lower parts". https://www.luth-ar.com/product/308-20-round-magazine/

    Has anyone used them?

    What did you think?

Are they made in house or sourced from a third party manufacturer?

At $34 a pop they are a bit pricey to buy just to test.

The only other 308 mags that somewhat match Luth's description ( steel and manganese phosphate finish ) are the DPMS OEM LR 308 mags.

I would be interested in knowing who produces them.

    Lancer mags FTW
I already have Lancers but if these are good quality I am interested in getting some metal mags to add to my stash.

Currently pretty much every steel mag except KAC and Larue (both high $$) are crap. So if these are as good as those at a third the price I will be all over them. But if they farm them out to ASC, CPD, ProMag, etc it's a hard pass.

So nobody even has something about these they heard from their friend's girlfriend's uncle's buddy to mention?

Strange there is nothing brought up in a search. No blog entries, youtube videos or buzz on gun forums.

I actually posed the question about the source of these mags to a LuthAR customer service rep in an email exchange about another of their products and he went silent on me.

Well…I’m looking for another source for metal mags that will allow a 2.86ish OAL to function correctly, and stay in a receiver securely. My last experience with 3 Mega Maten receivers and ASC mags was a cluster. As there are no standards for large frame AR dimensions, these receivers were about .030-040 wider in the mag well than some Black Rain receivers I’d been running for nearly 4 years successfully. The combination of broader receiver tolerances, and pretty inconsistent quality control from most recent sampling of 6-10 round and 6-5 round LR308 mags from ASC has me on the hunt for replacement source. Magpul works, but is limited to approximately 2.800” OAL. Interested, but not banking on a result.

Lancers have a metal reinforced upper section and will allow 2.860" COAL, magpul makes the M118 pattern of pmags which will allow a max of 2.831"

Like others definitely interested in these mags if they're not garbage.

Well it's been 3 days since I asked their customer service rep about the mags. It's an EASY question to answer and sing the praises of their new product, so at this point I don't think they are going to reply. Which I guess tells me all I need to know.

If DPMS had another firm making mags for them and there is no more DPMS, I would think Luth would absolutely know what company it was and to ask them to make them for him, Mr. Luth, would make them happy for more sales.

If they were making them in house back when he owned the company I'm sure he'd still know how so either way I hope it's another source because ASC certainly sucks at it.

Well still no reply from LuthAR on the source of their mags.

With them being silent on their own "new" product I can only assume they are sourcing them from another company and can't give a valid reason why they have jacked the price up over what their source sells them for.

And I have still had zero responses on other forums from anyone that has even heard about these mags let alone seen one.

Im not being a smart ass but buy one and try it out. $34 a mag isn’t very expensive and if it works well you can continue to buy them. If it doesn’t work then sell and your only out a couple of bucks….

When the company itself can't be bothered to talk about their own "new" product, I am NOT going to be spending MY money, time and ammo (even more money) to check it out.

With their continued silence, it really looks like the mag is just a re-badged product (whether ASC, Duramag or Promag is unknown) but in any case it sure isn't worth spending twice what one of those others can be had for simply to get the LuthAR name on the baseplate,
