The SS HD 5-20x is too much power for me but I really dig my SS 1x4. Has anyone heard of any plans for a "tweener" - possibly a 2.5-10, 3-12 or???? One of those would work much better for my needs and I'd jump on either one in a second!!

Re: Any other SWFA SS offerings in the works?

There was a thread over on the opticstalk forums, from who I would consider a reliable source. It was stated he currently had 2 other prototypes "IN HAND." I am curious to know any info also.

+1 to the 4-16x44mm or 50mm will do fine to.

In Texas I would be a nut to have on long sleeves today. 104 degrees. Lol

Actually hoping for something the size of their fixed 10, but with the features of the 5-20. There's enough Hubble's on the market.

Re: Any other SWFA SS offerings in the works?

ILya was the one who mentioned that he had 2 prototypes in hand over on Optics Talk. However, after that brief mention, anyone who knows anything is being very tight lipped. If there is something in the works, they are doing a fine job of keeping the lid on it.

As much as it sucks, we probably won't know anything more until it's ready to be released..... if/when that happens.

I can understand why they don't want to announce a new model until it's time (think back to the PST SNAFU), but since patience and I just don't get along, it would be nice to know scope XXXXX is in the pipeline.

Good things come to those who wait....... we'll see.

Hopefully under 2k??? That'd be WAY outta my ballpark.....

I currently have a 2.5-16x50 BN 6500 SFP mil-dot and am looking at the looking at the Weaver Tactical FFP enhanced mil-dot 3-15x50.

Ideally, I'd like to see SWFA come out with a FFP illuminated offering with a low end of 2x-3x max to compete directly with these for under 1k.....

Re: Any other SWFA SS offerings in the works?

I admit Im having some trouble understanding this, are you looking for magnification or features in your scope? Are you hoping a 4x16 will be lighter or more compact than the 5x20? On the low end I dont see how an extra 1x makes a scope more or less usable.

I run the SS 3x9 on hunting rifles and the SS 5x20 on a match rifle and see them as two different purposes. For my uses I cannot see how a 3x12 or 4x16 would handle either job "better" and would seem to be more of a tweener, to bulky for a lighter rifle and maybe lacking some of the features available on a bigger, bulkier package. I can understand the desire for a 1x8 as a combat optic but I am missing the point of midpower glass. Help me understand what this (3x12 or 4x16)would be used for that would not be better served by what is available.

Also for what it is worth I had the weaver 3x15 and it was a very nice piece of glass but sold it to buy the SS 5x20. The weaver glass was excellent but the SS glass was another step up and the extra 5x at the high end is helpful for some of the match stages like picking playing cards etc. I do not miss anything by only have 5x on the low end instead of 3x.

Re: Any other SWFA SS offerings in the works?

You're right that a 4x and 5x lower end are very similar and I probably should have specified 2x to 3x in the OP. For me, the 5x lower end is just too much magnification because I do more close range shooting (50-500) than long range shooting (500+). If your mileage varies - great. Sounds like you're good to go with the 5-20 but I'd prefer a lower mag on the front end. Variety is a good thing....

I think it's that they want something with a bit more mag than the 3-9 but they don't want to/can't afford to step up to the 5-20 model.

Re: Any other SWFA SS offerings in the works?

Since we are all putting our wish lists out there I will add mine. I want to see a 3-12x40mm side PA, FFP Mil/Mil non-illuminated at around 18-20oz and compact in OAL with a street price not much more than the fixed 10x HD.

Re: Any other SWFA SS offerings in the works?

I personally need magnification... but standard glass. I would be perfectly happy with a fixed 20X, 50MM obj, MIL-MIL, Mil-Quad reticle, $399-$499 price point.

While I love the 5-20HD model, I would prefer to keep the green stuff in my pocket.

Re: Any other SWFA SS offerings in the works?

A 4-16 with the same knobs, tube size and glass as the 3-9 might be an idea but I don't see it happening for 500$. Probably 700-800. A 3-12 would be neat but I don't know that it will happen since I can't really think of a situation where a 3-9 won't work but a 3-12 will.

I would be interested in hearing what sort of prototypes they have just to see what sort of direction they think the market is headed in...

It would not be a $600 scope at that point.

Re: Any other SWFA SS offerings in the works?

I'll may be sorry for not waiting but I went ahead and ordered the new Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 EMDR so I can run mil/mil on my two scoped ARs. Now for the long wait for it to get here and get it out to the range.

I'll make sure to post thoughts and some actual range pics ASAP......

Re: Any other SWFA SS offerings in the works?

just my .02,but i think 3-12 or 4-16 are perfect for a combo gun, where one can only afford 1 high quality rig. serious paper punching at many levels and hunting. where i hunt in the south shots can be @ 20 yards or way over 300 (which is my personal stop point). 2-10 would also work. do want max of 4(1-3 better) at the bottom top 10-18. 18 for rested paper shooting. personally 3-12 is the perfect thing. i can't hold much> 16x very steady due to lack of skill and 3 will get on close game in brush pretty good. hate to say it,but, looks like the USMC agrees with that power range. the harsh truth is "sniping" is just a form of hunting.
