OK so I am looking at buying another lens for my wife. I dont know anything about the photog world really other then how to carry her bag.. but I want to get her a little suprise... I am looking at this lens... do I want a higher "f" number? That just basically means more light can get in right? So it would be easier to use in a darker area?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Any photographers?

That is a great lens. 1.4 will take good shots in very low light. There is better low light or macro glass out there, but at exponentially higher cost for not much more performance. Good choice.

Whoops... I was looking at the number stamped on the filter in the photo and not at the text. That f2.5 macro is a good lens also. the one I was raving about is not a macro lens and is used by a lot of portrait photogs.

This is the one I had mistaken the macro for. Very good lens for portrait, and especially a benefit if the photographer is shooting indoors, and needs to use natural light. The F2.5 macro will do just as well outdoors for 80 bucks less. If You are looking for the better of the 2 though, this one with the Ultra Sonic Motor (USM) is best. Super fast focusing, and very good light gathering ability. I have several USM Canon lenses, and they are great.
