I have the opportunity to pick up a DT HTI in .50 BMG from an acquaintance for quite a good price. He purchased in early 2019 new, isn't shooting it as much as he though, wants cash for other projects. Any reason I shouldn't buy the rifle on the merits of the HTI?

What price? And what are your uses for it other than... IT'S A 50 CALIBER RIFLE!!

Do you have any trigger time behind a .50 Cal? I ask because if not....prepare yourself for some total ass-kicking recoil.

On the merits of the HTI itself... none that I can think of. It's a very nice ELR rifle platform. In my opinion it's an even more solid and well rounded platform than the it's smaller sibling the SRS/Covert.

On the merits of .50cal... yeah... and it goes just like what @hlee said. Unless you have previous experience with and a very specific plan going forward you're likely to end up like your buddy (i.e. wishing you had the funds for more practical and useful projects).

$4200 for rifle with one mag and torque wrench. Yes I have shot 50bmg, yes I know what I'm getting (deeper) into. Thanks for the reassurance that the HTI isn't something to avoided based on the rifle itself.
