Hey all, i've been doing a bit of perusing around, and I was wondering who in the states is set up to do metric work?

I've got a Howa, and i'm looking at a rebarrel in a year or so, so im trying to figure out who can do it

I'm also trying to figure out who can true a Howa action too...

I figure if I ask this now, i can compile a list of smiths, and save them for future reference down the road.

Re: Any stateside metric smiths?

I just re-barreled a Howa 1500 in 6mm BR as a cross the course rifle and yes try to get a stipper clip base for a Howa 1500 I had to make one of those also. Let me know .. Not a problem doing a barrel for a Howa in 26x 1.5mm you just need a 55 degree thread insert instead of a 60 degree. Some smiths use a this conversion.

The howa major dia, is 25.85mm ( 1.018) minimum with a pitch of 1.5mm

the remington is 26.71 min and 26.95 max with a pitch of 1.58mm

Re: Any stateside metric smiths?

The first time I tried to cut a metric thread didnt go so well. My mentor informed me not to disengage the halfnut just back off the crosslide and reverse the machine then advance the crosslide and compound and run another pass then repeat, worked like a charm. He explained this was because my lathe had metric gears and an english lead screw.
