Re: Any Subaru WRX STI owners here?

I had one for all of about a month. it was fun to drive but the fun wore off quick. It drank gas like a mofo even when driving easy. This coming from someone whose daily driver is a SVT lightning and it gets better milage. I had mine tuned and set up the day I got it from a subaru performance place using a COBB. They got right at 300#'s or torque and 280 horsepower to all four wheels. It ran great, took mustang GT's with ease but again it wasn't for me. Just sitting that low and the feel to me was off. I would definately test drive one for more than a spin around the block before putting my money in one. Thats just my opinion though so take if for that, just opinion.

Re: Any Subaru WRX STI owners here?

I bought an WRX right when they came out and preceded to drop $10K into it, the damn car was a riot. Ran 0-60 in 4 seconds and handled like a dream in all types of weather. We decided to have kids so I sold the car, the rear seat isn't built for a baby seat. I got a Audi S4 after I sold the WRX and that car was so much more refined, and damn near as fast, that I wont go back to a Subaru. If you want a car that is fun to drive, but a little rough around the edges go for it. Like SVT said they do get shitty gas mileage.

You know Adam it's just as easy to make the S4 faster (twin turbo model) albeit much more expensive.

These guys did a full stage III when I had my Audi and very few cars under 100K could walk it.

Re: Any Subaru WRX STI owners here?

Adam B, just how small is the rear seat area? Room for a car seat? My son only rides with me rarely,he's been in my truck maybe 6 times in a year. Just trying to figure out if it's really too small or not.

Re: Any Subaru WRX STI owners here?

I know it's not sexy, but I bought the Subaru Outback specifically because I have a 2 year old son, and one more on the way. AWD, room enough for car seats, fast enough (For me), sips the gas, and room for my trips to the deer lease and to the range. An WRX STI or tricked out Audi it is not but I love the thing...especially for kiddos.

Re: Any Subaru WRX STI owners here?

I looked at one and drove last month, I loved the ride and handling damn near loved everything about it until i drove the Infiniti G37S Sedan, for 4K more it was 2X car...The G37 is in my driveway, and it puts a smile on my face every time i hit the gas.

Re: Any Subaru WRX STI owners here?

I think subaru makes a sporty legacy as well that you should check out. Also Volvo has their sports sedan (R version). I don't have any first hand knowledge of these cars but seem to be in the same class (ie awd sports sedan).

The other thing you should consider is the insurance on the cars. I knew a guy that sold his sti because the cost of gas and insurance for him was too much.

Re: Any Subaru WRX STI owners here?

I am at a multi franchise and Subaru is one of our franchises so I work on them every day. I will tell you one thing about the STI they are fun and fast but and it is a big but. If you buy used you are almost 100% guaranteed to be buying one that has been badly abused. Most that purchase them abuse them. They go through brakes pretty fast also and they are expensive to maintain the brakes. Similar to BMW.

Re: Any Subaru WRX STI owners here?

I'm going to have to side with the Audis. I've had an A4 (B5 model) for a number of years with no real problems out of the car. I'm not exactly nice to it either. I also am pretty impressed with Subarus midsize turbo car also.

Re: Any Subaru WRX STI owners here?

The Mechanic made a very good point about used STI's. The overwhelming majority of used examples have been beat to shit. Saw some pretty horrific things while helping a friend shop.

Re: Any Subaru WRX STI owners here?

Any vehicle that is built like the sti or evo or any "fast" vehicle is going to be abused unless you find some old person that bought it to drive to church on sunday and never let anyone else drive it and even then I know some old men that drive stuff harder than I and thats saying something.

Re: Any Subaru WRX STI owners here?

I concur with these guys, I beat the living hell out of my Subaru, but in its defense, I sold it to my 18 year old cousin who beat it even worse than I did and it is still running to this day as a winter beater. The only thing that went out was the clutch and that was replaced with a performance clutch and has never had a problem since.
