Going to be putting a 6.5 custom together. Most likely in x55. would like to play around out past 1200m. As title suggests was wondering if anybody has had much luck out there!?
Re: Anybody got out past 1200m with a 6.5x55 (or 47)?
Have had a 6.5x47L out to 1580yds, but that's about it. Have some pretty good video of some 1430yd shooting with it too...shot probably a 8" group or less on a rock.
Re: Anybody got out past 1200m with a 6.5x55 (or 47)?
Got out to 1255 with the x47L. Only had 4 rounds left to test by the time I got back there. I need to get back out and test & practice more. JBM shows it should still be supersonic to right around 1600 with 130 Berger VLD's at the speeds I'm getting.
Thinking about keeping the Bergers for Hunting and sticking to 123 Scenars for longer range as elevation and windage are made up by increase in velocity.

Bohem,
Have you verified Swampy's numbers? I have some of the standard boattail 210 .30 cal's which are supposed to be .660. The numbers for my Amax's work better and they're .648. IIRC he did say his BC's are calculated and unverified.
Just don't want anybody to be disappointed that the Holy Grail doesn't come in a box of bullets.
Re: Anybody got out past 1200m with a 6.5x55 (or 47)?
I back calculated it via Bryan Litz's tests. He tested the 140's and Swampy stated the 130 and 140's were the same die and different core weight. The form factor is the same so you can just work out the relationship based on the difference in bullet weight.

I have a group o ffriends that shoot out to a mile every week and most are running the 6.5 x 47L but the guys running the 6 x 47L are the ones that are impressive that is one hot little round! but back to subject I know it is very reliable at the distances you want to play with and do believe the 6.5 caliber is one of the most accurate light recoiling guns a person can shoot.
