I see Murphy Precision makes them but I'm looking for something for a budget 5R build. I'm trying to put all the money into my 260 build but have a 5r 300wm that has been sitting in the box for a while. I'd like to at least get out and test it. If nobody else makes one I guess I'll just suck it up and buy the Murphy Precision base.

He said "budget". <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">NEAR Manufacturing</span></span> makes great bases and rings, and they are available in matte SS with either 6-48 or 8-40 Torx screws. IMHO they are the best steel bases out there in terms of design, machining, and fit and finish. However, I don't think that most would consider them "budget" at $175.00 plus air mail shipping.

BTW, what do you mean by <span style="font-style: italic">"something that will work"</span>? We are talking about an application-specific, precision scope base to be installed on a precision rifle. Exactly how does <span style="font-style: italic">"something that will work"</span> fit in here (no pun intended).

Re: Anybody make stainless bead blasted 20 MOA LA base

I made a suggestion to try and help the guy out. Not many people have ever heard of Near Mfg and Richard Near is a great man to work with. He puts out an excellent product and will work with customers on anything. So why not let the gentleman that asked for help decide if this an option or within his "budget". By saying "something that will work", it was intended for him to look at the website and make a phone call to see if Richard has something that he would be interested in using.

How exactly did your post offer anything to answer his question? Instead of dissecting the semantics of my sentence, try offering a post that's worth a shit.

Thats' great, but he did say that he is on a "budget". And, like I said most people here would not consider $175.00 plus shipping a budget item.

I agree, and I have suggested NEAR bases and rings to others here on numerous occasions. However, I don't think that Richard Near is going to radically discount his fine product for someone because they are on a budget.

Fine, but you didn't even give the OP an inkling of what NEAR bases cost, or even a link to NEAR Manufacturing's web site, which I did.

OK, but as I stated you could have given him an idea about price. And if you wanted to be more helpful you could have provided a link to NEAR Manufacturing.

Oh my, I see that you've got your panties in a bunch. Lets' see, how was my post helpful...

(1) I stated that NEAR makes great bases and rings

(2) I stated that NEAR bases and rings are available in matte SS

(3) I stated that NEAR bases are available with either 6-48 or 8-40 Torx screws

(4) I stated what the bases cost ($175.00 plus air mail shipping)

(5) I provided a link to the NEAR Manufacturing web site

I don't know, maybe its' just me, but IMO what I posted seems more helpful than:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Dark Horse</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Check out Near Mfg, he might have something that will work. </div></div>
And as far as your suggestion to me that I:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Dark Horse</div><div class="ubbcode-body">...try offering a post that's worth a shit.</div></div>
You should try that yourself sometime.

And BTW, the post you are reading now is how I dissect a post. Have a nice day <span style="font-style: italic">Dark Horse</span>, I'm off to work.

Richard Near's rail is stainless and available in matte/unfinished -- EGWs are <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold">aluminum</span></span>.

Re: Anybody make stainless bead blasted 20 MOA LA base

Too bad all of your "helpfullness" really doesn't help him anymore than mine. Other than providing the link which any Google search could have easily provided because Near has more than one site, he still needs to call and talk to Richard and will have forgotten all about any information you or I have posted.

Stop assuming you know what his or anyone else's budget here is and also assuming you know what Richard Near will/won't do, he did something for me that is far from normal business practice, who are you to make that call?

Its obvious that you enjoy quoting and attacking other posters, if you were so dead set against my suggestion, a simple "they are a great product but a bit pricey" and offering up a different suggestion could have avoided me "getting my panties in a bunch". So what do you have against someone researching on their own, do you think he was pissed at me for not providing a link to the site? LMAO, not saying the OP is included because I don't know him, but hand-feeding people what they want is exactly why we have scum that spill hot coffee on themselves and then sue the business that sold it to them..why, because they know society will pay for it.

I do not wish to blow up this guy's thread anymore arguing with you, if you feel the need to discuss this further PM me.

Thanks for the input guys

I am familiar with Near and there products are phenomenal. I will be using Near rings on my 260 build. Would probably use a base too if Badger didn't supply one with the action.

I might try the EGW base. I bought the 5R as a gun I can hunt/play with at the range. It's just another toy so I didn't want to dump a lot of money in it.
