first i have a shilen 308 barrel 25.5 inches long using 168 smk. next borrowed my crony to some guys and they shot it and said oops sorry. so heres the question. in my winchester book it shows 42 grns of tac as max load for 168 smk but on the ramshot web it shows 44.something. any way I was shooting 42.5 but was not getting good accuracy so a did a ladder test from ramshots min to max and found that 43.1 is very accurate at 300 shooting half inch or less groups but it is putting a lot of fouling in my barrel but just in the middle of the length not at either end but the 42.5 is giving me none to speek of. and I do not know my bullet speed. any ideas

Varget works for both my sidekick an I in all our .308's just fine.
In fact we have never found a stick that won't shoot it under moa, yet.

+1 for Varget!

We have run 44.0gr of Varget behind a 168 Amax for some time now. It's our go to load and been sub-half MOA thru four different rifles. It's been super consistent with low ES & SD's and doesn't make a mess in the barrel. A great powder in the .308 as well as other cartridges.

Stick with the 175SMK, once you learn them from end of the muzzle to past 1K yds the numbers are easy to remember. We both use Varget an 175's for everything except when shooting threw barricades to kill a target.
