anybody use RL17 powder for .308...175gr.

new to reloading and starting to buy what i need. i can fine rl17 powder. would this be a good starting powder or should i buy another ? thanks in advance, i am just starting to buy as i can find it

I don't think it's ideal, nor even recommended by Alliant.

Some guys are running RL-17 with the 208 AMAX out of a 308 Win., but at altitude mostly.

There are plenty of suitable and well documented powders for the 175s in the 308.

VV-150, IMR-4895, IMR-4064, RL-15, Varget, AA-2495, AA-2520 and Win 748 should keep you busy.

Get Varget and never look back with the 175s.

Varget is much more common, but you should do fine with RL-17 and 175gr. Check out this page:

I use 50.0 gr. of RL-17 behind 178 a-max in win. brass. 3000 fps at sea level, 30'' barrel.
