That 50 cal Damascus was FUN! Seriously, I had a blast where I was told much weaker folks just totally wilted from the forges heat. It was a danged hot ass summer day for sure! We each went through about 1.5 gallons of drink staying hydrated.
The first thing we did was Kim hands me this little small piece of metal, not but a scrap. Here, pound this right here after it's hot. After a few rounds of heat and hammer, he says, think of working on the sharp edge of a blade, form the tip. After a while of heat, hammer, auto hammer(which totally kicked my ass as Kim laughed during the video), I made my first forged blade, the wee 4" tanto.
After that we went at some Damascus, then the big block of 50 cal barrel Damascus was hammered, square pressed, twisted, then hammered into a billet. All in all, a damn good day, lots of fun!
