So I am thinking in my free time at work (CNC/Gunsmithing shop) that I would like to build my own rimfire action. I have a Marlin XT-22 and have never really been pleased with it. So my thought it to get the measurements off of the bolt and use that and the trigger but make the action, stock and dbm. I am thinking somewhat of a square action something like the Badger M2008.

Any thoughts on any of this?

I've wanted to do this but its Lots! of work. I've talked to people who have done it and they say its easier to buy a bolt and fit the action to it rather than build both. Also take your time because your dealing with building a firearm.

Go for it it is a great project. It really isn't that hard, but it does take a lot of planning and thinking before you start cutting. Here are a couple pictures of one I built a while back. I am getting ready to start on a Cheytac action soon.

I've built a few mostly rimfire but one in 7.62x25. Heck if you can make the reciever , make the bolt. Usually takes me about a year from planning start to shooting . Long time member of home gunsmith forums.
