Anyone got a Mini Cooper? S Model?

First gen Cooper S models (through '06) are supercharged. Second gen models ('07-up) get the BMW/Peugeot turbocharged "Prince" motor. This is the sort of shit that can be found in less than five minutes searching the web, but maybe that process isn't as interesting or entertaining as posting questions on a site having little to do with the subject matter.

While I've never owned one and likely never will, from what I've seen they are very well-built cars (especially for a company's first attempt at a modern FWD architecture). I was under one a few weeks ago that had 80,000 miles of Rust Belt usage, and it looked nearly new. They also seem surprisingly roomy for such a small vehicle.

I have no concern about the durability of properly-maintained turbocharged engines, and prefer this manner of forced-induction due to superior power delivery and the opportunity for substantial power improvements with very little effort.

Agreeed, turbo is a much more efficient way to add forced induction. If you take care if it, shouldn't be an issue. I see turbo diesels go well over 400k miles with no issues to turbo or base engine (mechanical hard parts). Slightly different application but point is it isn't the turbo that is the problem. I have also seen turbo diesels utterly destroyed in under 25k miles. Due to an amazing amount of abuse.

I'm rather partial to this one:

Probably has something to do with the fact that it was running around with parts that I built ;) I unfortunately cannot find the video demonstrating the capabilities of this particular AWD system, but it gave the vehicle to do some of the things that Ken Block has popularized.

I spent a Summer working a vendor stand at Watkins Glen International, purveying safety wear (Nomex, Helmets, HANS, etc.) and such to race drivers and crews.

There were several Ferrari Club meets where one of the members also brought a supercharged Mini as well. He had reconfigured the blower belt drive/pulleys to increase the induction pressure/boost ratio significantly, as well as performing basically every handling and driver safety mod that seemed possible.

That Mini held its own with the Ferraris out on the track.

the VW beetle is way better, all my wife's gay friends own them after trading in their Mini cooper.
cheers.

Wife is on her second MINI. Both have been excellent. The Beetle in any iteration is a hairdressers'/secretarys' car and ANY MINI will run circles around it. The MINIs seem to be as much BMW as any BMW and more so than some of the recent crap they have produced.
