I'll be ordering my 2nd USO scope soon and was planning on getting a SN-3 3.2-17 with a 44mm objective.I was really tempted by the ST-10 but I thought I would miss having a variable power. My mount is a Smith M1A mount.Of couse on a M1A I'll want to keep the scope as low as possible.I'm wondering what rings from USO to use---xlow,low etc.Pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Anyone have a US Optics on their M1A?

J, me thinks you need a C2 reticle for that 1.8-10

Re: Anyone have a US Optics on their M1A?

I have an M1A with an ST10 with the 44mm - no ergo and a friend of mine runs the 37mm. With different mounts you will need different ring heights. You probably wont know the lowest rings that will work until you get the scope and mount. We both really like the ST10's on the M1A's. They are smaller and cheaper than the SN 3. We use them 100-1000 yds. Variable for movers or close work would be nice but for added cost, I decided to go with the ST10 and I am pleased with it.

That is one awesome looking stick--May have to get an M1A just for the USO 3.2x17 I have coming. Is the cheek piece high enough on that, though? Seems like the scope sits really high relative to the stock--or is it just me...

No it's not you.Mounting optics on a M1A is always problematic. It's not the greatest platform for optics.

Re: Anyone have a US Optics on their M1A?

This thread is another reason I'm a USO fan....within 10 minutes of my question I had a USO rep reply.Within 5 hours I had the owner of the company reply.Name another company that would happen at!!!

On that particular chassis set up the cheek pieces is adjustable, only reason why I went to it. The J.Allen stock does the same, it just wasn't out when I had the rifle built.

Re: Anyone have a US Optics on their M1A?

Go as low as possible, especially with a Smith or Sadlak mount. However, make sure that the bell of the scope wont hit the front of your rail. That is your limiting factor, but it shouldn't be a problem with a 44mm objective.

I would contact this guy and do what he says...but, then again, I just like getting things right the first time.

Doc knows this shit backwards and forwards.

I salute you sir that is one hell of a beautiful rifle. Is the reticle on the USO the new CQB reticle? Also where'd you get your Finish? Or did you do it? After my barrel gets put on my .308 it's going straight to get the Military/sniper camo finish.

Thanks. Every Larue mount I've ever used has held zero well with in my ability to shoot. I'm actually using this mount backwards, but there is 0 cant so it works well.

I bought the scope used several years ago (from a member here)... Not sure what they call this reticle, but it's similar to an EOTech ret. Larger/fatter outer ring with small center dot. It seems to work well - though the scope is a bit heavy.

The finish is just some backyard fun w/ Alumahyde II, Krylon and a bit of bowflage. Just keep spraying until you like it. Here's another pic:

Re: Anyone have a US Optics on their M1A?

Instead of creating a new thread and these questions might answer something the OP might ask about also. From some of the pic's I can see there is at least one set up like what I will have. A 1.8TPAL on a sadlak mount. My questions are Does the 37mm objective get in the way using the x-low rings and the line of sight using the irons? If not probably will with the OP's 44mm objective with the bigger T-pal would you say? Also the eye piece looks to come very close to the rear iron sight using the x-low rings. My rifle uses SEi NM sights and is up8 clicks @ 100 hitting dead on with 168gr match. The rear sight aperture is taller at that point above the rear ears. Exactly how much room is there to work with between the eyepiece and the rear iron sight using them x-low rings?

Re: Anyone have a US Optics on their M1A?

I have a 1.8-10x37 on mine M1A. I think the power range is perfect for the M1A. The one problem I had mounting the scope was that the rear ocular power ring hit the top of rear sight. I was using a set of Badger standard rings. I had to swap them out for the USO rings, they came up just enough to clear the rear sight. Don't for get you will need a cheek piece of some sort. All things considered I like the set up.

Hows the accuracy on a M1A?

What did that run you in cost for just the gun? I'm really looking into a m21/m14 ebr short-longrange setup like that. This is in the future though, like 2 years but im always one to plan ahead. Do you think GAP could barrel one in a 6.5? I think that would be awesome if could be done.

I can't remember exactly - it came together piece by piece, and it was several years ago. I bet it would run you over $2500 today.

I'm not aware of a M1A bolt in 6.5 - I think that would be your problem. George would be a much better person to ask.

Here is one of my MK14 SEI rifles. It's bolted into a Mod 1 style SAGE EBR stock with a cheap Leupold optic.

Re: Anyone have a US Optics on their M1A?

I have an M1A NM stqainless with walnut stock and Arms mount and rings. for whatever reason I could never get my USO to mount and work very well. Switched to a NF 5.5x22x56 and no problems...as to accuracy, .75 or better at 200m as set up. you can shoot it all day without shoulder pain. jMy favorite rifle. For you M1A fans there is a website devoted to them.....M-14.com. tons of great info. enjoy your rifle.

Yes, M1As, other M14 clones and GI M14s are accurate and can be extremely accurate.
