Gunsmithing Anyone know what DuraCoat uses for their hardner?

I'm pretty much done with Duracoat. Once again I go to paint a rifle and the hardner has decided to do it's job, without my request or assistance, while sealed in it's bottle. So now I wait, again, for a 1oz bottle of hardner to get here which costs me $15 and will be good for probably one application before it does a nice job of making it's plastic bottle hard as a rock.

Anyone happen to know what Lauer uses (repackages) for the hardner? I'm tired of paying inflated prices for product which has a shelf life of a week when I could probably buy a gallon of the stuff (if I knew what it was) for $10.

i think i once heard that duracoat was the same thing as "prolane" from Sherman Williams , you might ask about that , or call Tom Manners and see what they use.

are you keeping the hardener in the fridge? its supposed to last for a year or so if kept cold

Thanks JJ, it is Sherwin Williams Polane T. I've never checked to see if Sherwin Williams uses a hardner or if that is something Lauer came up with.

I keep everything in the fridge but the DC hardner never lasts. I don't have issues with anything else. Paid $12.52 shipping on a $4.90 oz of hardner.

i keep all of my duracoat hardener in a sealed ammo can in the refrigerator and have bottles that are a couple years old and still good as new. keeping it in the dark seems to really help. not sure but the air tight ammo can might be helping as well

Question again: what does Lauer use for their hardener, or what
is an similar or equivilant hardener one can buy local (and cheap)??

Sherwin Williams Polane Catalyst MSDS

Whenever you need to determine commercial products' material compositions, do a search for the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). It's easier... For once, having an Uncle Sam and an Auntie OSHA can come in handy...
