I have in the past, loaded thousands of trap loads, but have never loaded any buckshot. For those that load your own, do you buffer or not, and what are your favorite powders?

I'll probably stick to 2 3/4" shells since that's what I have on hand. Gunshop had a couple 5lb boxes of hornady 000 and #4 buckshot, so I thought what the hell, I might as well give it a try.

I don't yet, but I too am interested in this. I've got the shotshell apparatus all in boxes, and am building a bench to mount it all on. Primarily, I'd be interested in loading up SSG's if/when I can get ahold of the shot.

    Interested.

I'm a member of SASS forum... if anyone would know, that forum would prolly have all the answers. Alot of shotgun guys on there.

I can ask there if you'd like ...

I've been loading trap shells for 25yrs. A few years back I was given a few containers of different size buckshot. I think there was O, #1 and #2. Maybe a little BB size shot also?

What I came up with was basically a 1 1/8"oz trap load using the Winchester stubby red wads. I don't remember exactly what they are, I have some left but they are up in my garage and that ain't happening tonight.

Using a MEC 9000G, I sized and deprimed, seated the primer and dumped powder, then pulled the hull out. I think I did 25 at a time. After pushing the wad in, you have to stack the shot in by hand, doing it in such a way you can crimp the hull. If memory serves there were either 9 or 12 BB's in the shells I made, depending on the shot size. I think OO and triple OOO have 5 or 6 BB'S?

After you figure out how to stack the BB's, you put the shell back in and run through the 3 crimp stations. The crimps aren't pretty, but damn the shit works! I remember a pic I have on an old phone of a USPSA target with a head shot from 6 or 7yds with a coach gun I have. 9 holes in the head. Any closer and the wad goes through. Fun stuff!
