I’m interested in upgrading phone since my phone is 4 years old. My wife runs an apple and I’m considering a Android. Is it a total pain in the ass running two different operating systems?

They are rather different and not super compatible with each other as they have different support systems, also some apps like FaceTime are apple only (but you could use Whatsapp or Skype or many others).

However most folks kind of treat their phones as rather personal private items, so it may not make much difference to you. She has her phone that is setup to sync to her apple "cloud" account and also link up to her computer & then you have your android setup for your stuff.

The thing I like best about the Android phones is if you want to copy a bunch of files back and forth, you just plug it into pretty much any computer system you want & it can act like a big USB drive & that makes copying large amounts of files very quick & simple.

I use Android and she uses Apple.

Not really that big of a deal, but I never started with an Apple so perhaps I just don't realize what sort of "interfacing" I miss out on.

Text messages are text messages, if you want to "FaceTime" you can do it through apps like messenger or WhatsApp.

I hate Apple products (as does my wife now) and I will never buy an Apple product. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

Wife and I both have both. Her Apple is personal and has android for work. I have Apple for work, Android for personal. She prefers Apple, I like Android.
Guess it just depends on you and how you use it. My camera is much better though...

My Pixel 2 camera is much better than her Apple X (or whatever that damn thing is called)

Rebecca had an iPhone when we met. It didn't take long for her to convert over to android.

Better camera, expandable storage and they don't seem to break if you drop them. Mine has even been under salt water a few times. Galaxy S-7.
You can still replace the battery by yourself and you're not tethered to a charging cord all the time.

But, what do I know, I've never owned an iPhone.

My Apple can go a couple or three days before a charge is needed. My Android is requiring a charge long before one day is over. But that's because I use the Android a LOT more.

Up front for full disclosure, I have a serious disdain for SanFran Bay area tech companies and I'm as anti-Google as I am anti-Facebook, which is just a bit more than I am anti-Apple so I run iOS devices and have for years, dumped my Android Sony four years back.

Functionality wise, they're both a communications device that basically do the same thing in only slightly different ways. It's what's happening behind the scenes that I despise about Google more so than Apple. Google/Alphabet is level creepy as fuck to me with their personal data usage, I don't doubt for a second they're chomping at the bit to start selling a future commie administration our full internet and behavior history that's been "socialismly" scored through far leftist programmed GoogleAI, and I can't stand that one bit. Even with Apple I have everything tracking wise switched off, but they at least give you the option of doing so while Google does not. Don't take my word for it though, a simple search of "Apple vs google for privacy" yields numerous options for further reading on the subject.

As for one talking to the other, one feature I really like about both my lady and I having iPhones is sharing location is simple. Both of us spend a lot of time on the road for work, it's easy for us to see where the other is if we can't get ahold of the other, she will see I'm on the tracks and knows I'm working late and not touching my phone while I know what house she may be at visiting a mental health client in case I need to breach-bang-clear that mother fucker if something goes sideways. That might not be a wanted feature for someone with a side piece or frequents the strip club, I'm not worried about that though. This can be done cross platform through Google Maps, but again, I hate Google and have zero of their apps on my devices.

I will just leave this here.

Wife and kids have Apple as do most of my immediate family and close friends. I've had a Samsung S7e and the camera and phone of Apple's new 10 series (w/ Samsung's screen) just about caught up to my 4 year old phone.

We don't have many interface conflicts other than some emojis show up in test and email as a rectangle with an X inside.

iPhones appear to be really good for Facetime, playing Candy Crush, and depleting bank accounts though. :ROFLMAO:

I started with Apple and last year I decided to jump ship and go with the Samsung Galaxy 9 Note with the remote pen. I can't lie I really want to like it, but I just can't get used to the "flow" of how it operates compared to a iPhone. I actually like the phone itself better, but I think ios is a much smoother operating system this android I want smash against the damn wall most days. I am probably going to sell it and go back to apple.

Me android, wife apple. I never much cared for itunes, and its weird synching bs. Have had android (mostly Samsung phones), since the Iphone 3GS. I mostly use it for texting, and calling. Only time I really use data and apps, is when I'm bored waiting at the VA. I much prefer a nice 24" screen for looking on the interwebz.

Wife and I both value our communications privacy, so we use apple devices.

Protip: both my commanders and my secured phone, is apple. Android isnt secure enough for DOD usage.

Do with that what you will.

So ALL your text messages and other communications go through Apple's servers... And you trust them... a bunch of SJW fanatics, Virtue Signaling money hungry bastards to never ever "use" your data...... Right... Keep telling yourself that. The DOD wanting apple has more to do with politics than anything else.

Right. Because google isnt a paragon of social justice, in any way... They dont actively obfusctate conservative outlets, push fringe leftists shot to the top, and strip places they deem “toxic” from even being found?

Lets just be fare here; being from silicon valley means you’re inherently shit.
But, when push comes to shove, apple has been the only one to show the slightest semblance of spine when it comes to users privacy. Google would gladly roll over and wet itself to have the opportunity to lick boots.
