I have been using a 6.5 for the last year and figure that I will need a new barrel by the end of this year, looking at the idea of a 6mm. I'd be very interested to hear your experiences! What powders you are using, where you run into pressure, velocity obtained with different bullet weights, ETC.

I know Carl Bernoski was pretty successful with a 243 AR10 at Camp Perry about 20 years ago.

Edit - Actually it was a hopped up AR15 running 6mm HAGAR.

I've been shooting a GAP10 in 6mm Creedmoor for 5 or 6 years now. IMO it is the best cartridge for a semi auto Precision type rifle. It beats the 6.5 in a gas gun easilly.

My last barrel went 3300 rounds before I put a new one in. I use H4350 to get a velocity of 3075 fps, which is mild enough, yet good enough for long range work and functions perfectly in the GAP. Recoil is much softer than a 6.5 and 308.

At our clubs Precision rifle match last week I got an 18" square steel at 1050 yards 7 out of 8 times.

I would say go for it!

Steelhead Thanks you for the response!
Does your rifle have a standard rifle length gas system and how long is your barrel?
Are you using 105/107 grain bullets?
Have you tried any of the new 110gr Seirra's or 115-117 weight berger or Dtac?

Yes, standard rifle length gas system. I have two uppers, one with a standard gas block, and the other with a Noveske adjustable gas block. The adjustable works well with a suppressor, but I have not shot it much, yet. It is my back up for when my other barrel needs to go back or if I feel like shooting suppressed.

    Barrels are 23" long.

I use the 105 Berger Hybrids. I have shot the Hornady 105 AMAX and they work well too. The BC on the Hybrids is better, so I mainly shoot those. On my last barrel, I was able to get a couple hundred more rounds of good accuracy by switching from the Hybrids to the AMAX. Not sure why, but even GAP suggested I try it to get through a match, before I sent the barrel back to them. It worked.

I just bought a box of the new 110 Sierra's but haven't been able to try them yet. I'm a little worried about getting them to fit in a magazine. They are long sexy bullets!! Have not tried the heavier bullets. Haven't seen the need.

What load of H4350 are you using? If I get anywhere close to that velocity I start blowing primers.
