Like the title says... 308 shooting 168gr smk's
Trying to decide on barrel length, I will probably get to shoot past 600 once or twice a year the majority of shooting will be 300 yards and in.
I am thinking 22"
Anyone have a Broughton under 24"

I have a 20" Broughton 10 twist. Shoots the 178 AMAX and 168 AMAX great. Get about 2685fps from the 178s and 2655fps from factory 168 AMAX loads.

Re: Anyone shooting a Broughton .308 under 24"

I've been wondering the same thing. I'm having a rifle built, and it'll use a Broughton 5c. I thought I'd want it around 24-25" but I'm beginning to have second thoughts.

Onemnoretime - Why do you wish you had gone to 18"?

Same here. Wanting something compact. My only hesitation is seeing the drop in velocity from a 24" to a 20", but from all that I have read at the ranges for which I intend to shoot it will not be noticeable.

I have a 20" 5C 1:10 twist, it loves 168 FGMM, that is the only thing I have tried out of it, and really have no need to move to something else, but will do some reloading down the line. The gun flat shoots. I haven't had a chance to chrono it yet, but I can't imagine it will be much different than the results Rob is getting from his.
