Anyone shooting a Rem 504 here?

A few months back, I found a NIB Model 504-T LS HB in 22LR. I purchased a used Leupold VX-III Long Range 3.5-10x40 with target dot reticle and M1 turrets, but when I got the scope, I found the reticle was canted, so it's off to Leupold for repair. I have a set of Mk-4 Med Aluminium rings waiting for the scope.

Any suggestions as far as what ammo to start with. I did buy a 100-rnd box of Rem subSonic to try since I heard it's a good value (accuracy) for the money. It will be primarily used as a trainer, since I have a 100-yard set-up in my back yard, and anything larger then a 22LR becomes boring at that range. I may try it out to 200-yards also, but where I shoot at the longer ranges, we can get some wind that even with a 223, you feel like you're just wasting ammo.

Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks!

Most folks have pretty good luck with Wolf MT and it seems to be the prefered 22lr ammo. Aguila MR is pretty good as well. I suggest that you buy a 50rd box of every 22lr ammo available at your local gun store and shoot 5rd grps with each at 50yds. Do the same at 100yds. The most consistant performer is probably the one you should purchase from then on. The best thing about 22lr is how cheap it is to shoot.

Nice set-up 762frmafr. I didn't think anyone made a rail for the 504. I called Murphy Presisian and left a message, although looking at their website, it looks like the 504 rail will be a custom order.

Mine likes CCI Green Tag and the Wolf MT. Mini-mags are OK but not quite as accurate as the other two. They Remington Eley rounds either didn't shoot well or wouldn't chamber (it's been a while since I've had that rifle out).

Cameron will have to make it for you, but it is no problem because he already has the pattern. he made one for me, then 2 weeks later he made one for my cousin. he can get one out in a day. hell of a nice guy to deal with as well.

Howdy,

I bought a used Rem 504 Sporter last fall, and after two trips back to Rem for warranty work, it will now shoot 3/4" 50 yard groups with Wolf Match Extra. I would recomend doing as others have suggested, and buying a variety of different brand, weight and velocity rounds and see what the rifle likes best. I have heard that the HB 504s can be quite accurate. Good luck!

Re: Anyone shooting a Rem 504 here?

Thanks everyone! I have a Murphy Precision 20-moa rail coming my way, and now I just have to wait on Leupold to get my scope fixed and sent back to me. Looking forward to shooting it before the snow fly's ...which could be anytime around here.

Re: Anyone shooting a Rem 504 here?

My 504-T loves cci 40gr. subsonic Segmented, but at 6-7$ per 50 rd box they are not cheap and they are sold out everywhere. They are very impressive when you smack a soft target,,, bunny blackbird, sparrows disapear into a cloud of feathers never to be seen again. The remington subs shot ok in my 504t but they are dirty and sometimes didn't fire. Now if remington would just pull there head out of there ass and make a clip worth ashit for the 504-t the gun would be perfect.
