Anyone thinking of moving from their blue state to a more Free Red state?

Did it 19 years ago, now all those fuckers are following me.

Stay in Memphis, ass holes.
I have a black buddy who lived in Memphis so I've spent a bit of time ther, this was circa 2010. Met some really good black folks, but damn, there was a Mall that had so much crime they bulldozed the whole thing. Thats fucked up. Just heard Trumpster's sending troops to un fuck it. Good luck.

Memphis is a big name, we forget that Little Rock is fucking crazy too, and places in Florida (Tampa?), Oakland Cali, Seattle is a toilet too. All our cities suck tbh.

2 years into our move from NJ to fla ,we came here for the weather mostly everything else is a plus/bonus ....firearm wise its like i moved to another galaxy of freedom . You have no idea of the difference between the states ,years ago i bought a new rifle in NJ and all i drive is 2 seat sports cars ....the ride back home with it under the rear hatch glass scared me over a pull over .

About 4 years ago, when we sold our house outside Detroit, my wife swore to never move again. And we just 'moved' to a house we'd already had for nearly 20 years.

A couple years ago, I might have been able to talk her into it. Now that we have a 13 month old granddaughter, there's no way in Hell she'd leave MI. If anything, she'd want to move back closer to Detroit.

States? Y’all are pussies. I’m exploring options outside of the US entirely.

We've talked about heading out of country to where the in-laws live as we head into retirement. We'll see when the time comes. Big driver is what the kids (recently with grandkids!) want to do. They live in a mountain town not for from our place in California so, if we go, we'll likely maintain that house as long as they're around. The grandkids are the greatest gift in life I didn't see coming and I know I wont be OK just seeing them for a couple weeks in the summer and the holidays.

Serious questions:
What places are you "thinking" would be better?

Have you spent much time outside the US?
I have, and at one point wanted to move to Oaxaca Mexico. Beautiful area in the mountains of south central Mexico. Then it hit me, no guns allowed and Cartels make traveling to and from a gamble.

I'm staying home.

I spent a good portion of last year in Italy and I'm strongly leaning to doing dual citizenship. The lifestyle is amazing (when you stay away from the high tourism areas) and the food is real. They have laws against processing food. There's definitely more research that I have to do, but the ease of the lifestyle there is what got me. The real problem I have is I'm an American to the core. They don't have all the same freedoms we have. Because of all the shitty travel I've done, I've seen what most take for granted, and would never want to give it up.

Yes - I worked in several countries (private sector) and had apartments or corporate housing (nice hotel for months) in some and full residency in one. Some I liked a lot and some I'd rather not visit again. No doubt they are different in many ways but I'm pretty flexible. "Better" is very subjective and varies by individual. Certainly some give and take wherever you go whether in the US or abroad. We are looking at a US territory (USVI) where the in-laws are as an option so not entirely different.

What happens Aug 26th?

Not that it's any of our biz, but do you have peeps there, or is it more about cost of land and taxes? I guess I assumed you'd go to Wyoming, Kansas, Arizona, South Dakota, based on you being in the Rockies.

I guess maybe a dumb question, but why won't you be able to operate after August of '26 ?

Colorado keeps becoming a challenging place to own a firearm. Check out the hoops you have to jump through if you want to acquire a gas gun after August 1, 2026: https://wethesecondcolorado.com/colorados-gun-ban-era-begins-unpacking-the-controversial-sb25-003/

Currently being challenged in court, but...

Yep. Drove to my range this AM and expended about 300 rounds. Stopped at CFA for lunch. As I’m enjoying my chicken sandwich, a fellow stopped at my table and said, “Your spare mag is showing, 1911?”

I rearranged my shirt and we chatted for a minute. No screams, no SWAT.

Lots of people have done it especially retirees.

I went from CA to AZ and after a couple years I miss my old part of cali a lot. It was up north about an hour from Tahoe. It sucks that the most beautiful state in the union fell to democrats.
Yeah, it is. For pure beauty and diversity (of land and climate) no place I've been touches California. If you've not seen the Pacific you just cant imagine how different it is from the Atlantic.

Sadly, GruesomNusom seems to be solidly in control.

Born and raised there. Don’t miss it even a little, and I prefer northern nevada climate anyway.

I am also in Cali, and the only place I can think of moving to is Oregon or Alaska. Love being by the ocean, and all that comes with it. WA has gone crazy with gun laws and pervs teaching in schools. This is what happens when you have mail in voting for 20 years, so WA is out. Rural OR is quite conservative, and the laws are not as bad as Cali or WA. The Oregon coast is a definite possibility and I mull the thought over often.

I keep hoping the crooked vote counting in Cali will change. If so, it will revert to a more free state.

I was driving home from an event in Texas and got stopped for being a bit over the limit late at night. Handed the cop my Oklahoma CCW saying "Most important thing first." We had a nice discussion on shooting, he was surprised when I told him I had just come from shooting to a mile. Handed my licsense back with his card and said "Have a safe trip."

you have no idea how or if i vote so go put a tampax in it and chill
Doesn’t matter, you lost whatever shit hole you had ties to and gave up. You won’t fight for the new one either if it comes to it I see it daily.

good job having an emotional response to something you took personally like a woman and then bringing up tampons.

It's becoming harder to stay and try to fight in a state that taxes you to death and continues to strip your rights away. I'm tired of navigating around bums and crackheads, sitting in traffic and not being able to afford a house here. All of my family has either departed the earth or the state. No wife or kids, just a long term career here. I keep looking for the right job in states I would relocate to, but nothing has popped up that would be a good fit for me. I still need back surgery and that also makes it tough to leave until I can get that handled. I know excuses are like assholes...

I've been in CA most of my life outside of a couple of years for auto/diesel school in AZ. I have traveled all over this country outside of the Dakotas and Hawaii. Most of it by vehicle so I have been fortunate to see most of it. I have found places I would not mind living, but a lot of it would be a tough transition just on the weather alone. I just want to be somewhere that still has plenty of public land, low taxes and good people. I would miss the ocean but fish live in lakes and rivers too.

I recognize a lot of morons from my state have moved to good places and are trying to fuck it up. The same could be said about the other blue states. People are still dumb and I have no solution to fix the stupidity. I would hope that if you left a place because it's fucked up that you recognize why it was that way and vote/act in a way that is the opposite of where you left from.
