Anyone use/know about Blackheart Int. receivers?

I am looking for another 700 footprint receiver for a new build and was recommended a Blackheart International receiver. I have never heard of anyone using them. And looking at the price they seem kinda high for what they are. For a a little more I could buy another Surgeon 591 action.

The positive aspect is it is in stock at the store so no waiting months for a receiver.

BIG HORN Actions!!!!


They are the new guys on the block and I am very, very happy with mine. Frank has one in an AICS and I have mine in a Sentinel Stock. I am shocked at how smooth and easy it is to manipulate.

I would stay away from receivers you haven't heard much about or any testing done that is more wide spread.

Thank you for the input/advice. On;y issue I have is I need/want it now and most time frame quotes I have received vary from 2-4 months plus.

From what I have been able to find out is that Blackheart is using Stiller actions with their brand on it.

They claim it is a proprietary action in their Kingwood shop. I have not met the owner/ smith however. Friends who have shot their AR's have been well impressed with accuracy. The uppers in the Kingwood location looked very nice indeed. I will try to find out more. There is not a lot known about them locally. Thier main facility and where thier AR's and bolt guns are built is in Philippi,WV, that I do know. Prices are at a premium on bolt guns, but par with upper end market prices for AR's. Friendly/knowledgable staff in their upstart shop for general gear.

call mike at underground skunkworks, he can normally get you a action in a few weeks, and his are made by defiance and are top notch. he might even have one in stock. Plus he has great customer service.

Or you could just buy a rem 700 there is typically at least 2 or 3 on here for sale at all times.

I'm really no expert on this stuff but I think you are. Offer to "Beta test" one for a discount and post a report here. That is, if Frank doesn't mind. I know you're risking the rest of your investment... Just a thought.

Guys, thanks for looking at our actions. Yes, we asked Stillers to make them after testing some of the others and we are quite happy with them. We have made some very accurate rifles with them. Jerry, thanks for your work on them and we also have a few left in stock so if guys are wanting them we can also send them out quick.

Lou Patrick makes our rifles here and is a helluva a gun maker. He only has a few machining degrees, Army Marksmanship Unit gun building time, a few guys getting National records with his work and all the support I can offer to put out quality guns.

The IT guys are still working on the BHIarms.com website but the guns are much further ahead than the website, LOL.

Lou just built my personal hunting rifle recently and it did a ragged ten round group at 100 with factory ammo so i cannot wait to work up a load or two for it so it can bet stretched out some.

When I ordered my BigHorn I had it at my FFL in a week (7business days). He delivers when he says he is going to deliver.

There dealer discount is pretty big too. If you have a buddy with an FFL it gets you quite a bit cheaper!

FYI. You have to be a dealer to buy actions. You will need an FFL.

stiller cant be beat for the money. there just isnt any others that compare in the price range. i have had several stiller actions and ever one of the shot very very well. the only beef i have is the bolt handles. i sure wish they were tig welded. i have never had any problems with them but it could happen i suppose. there great action though. im thinking about another myself. lee

Dam! i just looked at blackharts web site and they want 1300 bucks for an action. thats crazy!! no offense but talk about bent over!! i know a guy has to make a little money but not all at once! LOL!!! More power to them if they are getting it though i guess!! Lee

I understand that. I was saying if he had a buddy with an FFL, meaning one that wouldnt charge him extra it would be a great deal. Since that is what he stated he wanted without the wait.

We started using a different design. We are going to a true billet one piece bolt by the end of the year. In the interim, we are using a design that is fully wrapped like a pipe joint and silver brazed. In our testing, this joint is significantly stronger then the old one and even stronger then a tig handle. The tig handle is typically welded on 3 sides with about .075 deep penetration. We found them to break at about 75% more force then the normal soldered. Our new wrap design will bend the back of the bolt before letting go. The billet one pieces are one piece, not much more to say there.

that sounds great Jerry! See folks one more reason to go with stiller, they are always improving!! One thing i want to make clear though. I wasnt complaining about my actions or bolts, I was just saying if there were anything to pick about it would be the bolt handle connection method. But like i also said, i have never had any problems! I think it has to do with so many horror stories about remington bolt handles coming off. Lee
