Anyone used gun clamps for sighting in?

Hello all, I'm trying to get a sweet tactical 308 setup. I want to see how accurate my rifle actually is though. To ensure the me factor is taken out of the gun I'm considering the Ransom Rest clamp system. Has anyone used this setup? I know it's pricey, but I want something a little more scientific than a shooting bag for groups.

btw I'm considering the Remington LTR or Les Baer semi auto 308. It's a tough decision, $1k vs $3k.

Thanks

I'm guessing no one uses the rest. Most here get some sort of training and accept the nonrest results as a baseline.

FYI, just as your asking about a rest the two rifles you are considering says alot. My advise is get the LTR, no ransom and perhaps a class or two.

Why?

Other than for bragging rights it seems to me that if you use the Ransom rest and shoot a few groups that will probably be well under MOA anyway using factory match ammunition it won't help you become a better marksman.

Truthfully the only thing it will probably prove is that the rifle can shoot better than you and you should've spent the money used on the Ransom rest to attend a precision rifle class. That way it won't matter how accurate the rifle is, you'll know how to drive the rifle by properly applying the fundamentals of marksmanship to achieve hits on target. Shooters like to know it's them that made the hit and not the rifle.
