Anyone using 208's in 308?

I just picked up 2 box's to TRY in my 24" 10twist 308.

Would like some insight as to what jump they like "in general, or in your gun" and what powders your using and velocity per barrel length.

I am wondering if it would be worth trying a slower powder like IMR4350...

Other powder I am currently stocking include...
Varget, imr4350, H4831sc, ar comp, H4350, aa2230, aa2520, have access to almost any powder..

I have plenty acces to more of these bullets, I bought 2 box's to try. I'm just not sure if It will perform that much better than the hundreds of 178's I have,..

I haven't thrown 208s, but my 10-twist seems to like Varget pushing 190s with a .020 jump. I've done very little development with those; hopefully others will be along with more hard-data numbers

I recently posted some data on another forum regarding the 208 AMAX in the .308, showing that if you can get that bullet to a 2500 fps muzzle velocity (MV), it will drift no more at 1000 yards than the 6.5's running 2800 fps. And it hits with more than 200 additional foot pounds of energy at that range.

And the response? I felt like I'd just walked into a Sandy Hook memorial service wearing an NRA hat. But run the numbers yourself and you'll see that I'm right.

To the point... yes, if you have the twist rate for the bullet (I would say 10 would be optimal), and you can use a decent and proven powder to get the job done, 2500 fps from the 208 AMAX will be safely and easily done. This load will have a good bit of drop to 1000 yards (and this is where the 6.5's and 6mm's have their advantage), but it'll drift no more than they do. And it'll smack the crap out of whatever it hits...

As counter-intuitive as it may sound, W748 has been awfully good to me when running heavies out of the .308 win. Varget is another good choice, but *in my own experience* W748 has given me the most satisfaction with bullets heavier than 190 grains in the .308 win.

Another load I've been using lately is Sierra's 200 grain Matchking in Winchester brass, and 41.5 grains of 4064 (either IMR or AA)... super, super accurate... and easy on everything... it runs about 2490 from my 26" Savage. Probably something around 41 grains would get the 208 moving well...

I have been testing them out in my dpms 308. So far the best results are with cfe223.
43grns in winchester brass at 2.8 oal gets me 2500fps out of the 24". Out to 500 they
Are not much better than the 178, but past that they are great. Alot less wind drift

I've posted this before. 208's are perfect for Fclass TR. you are stuck with the 308, but better wind drift than others, and Fclass is all about wind calls. Downside is slightly more recoil....

I recently sold my GA Crusader .308 with a 22" bartlein 1.11.25 twist. But I loved shooting the 208 amax threw it and the gun did too. My load was 41.8 varget fgm210m , lapua brass , 2.830" at 2440 give or take a few fps. I am now in the process of building a single shot ftr rig specifically for the 208's. longer barrel and more free bore ..I'd say I'll get them close to 2670ish. Here's 5 at 500 yards out of that gap .308

I just picked up 3# of imr 4064, 1# of 2000mr and 8# of varget to try out... As soon as I can get some range time.
