Anyone w. youngster into math/science?

So was going through my basement (wondering where the hell did I get all this stuff?) and came across a Celestron Astronomy telescope that I bought about 10 years ago when laid up w. a back injury. I haven't had it out in ages, but it's a neat unit and (other than having a dusty tube) is like new. You can see moons of Jupiter, Rings of Saturn and a nearby galaxy if you know where to look.

Rather than sell it or put in on eBay...

Does anyone here have a son/daughter/brother/ sister/nephew/niece/neighbor kid, etc. who is a science whiz? Do you know a deserving young student who is a budding scientist/mathematician/astronomer, etc?

If you have a youngster in mind who would put this to good use, send me a PM. I'll box it up and send it, no charge even for shipping. Maybe it will help someone's future in math or science or inspire a future scientist, astronomer, engineer, inventor or similar.

It would be a bonus if I could send it to the youngster of someone whose family budget perhaps doesn't include telescopes right now... someone who has a parent serving (or who has served) overseas; the son/daughter of a fellow LEO or a firefighter, etc... Deserving being the key here.

And, no, it wouldn't make a good spotting scope. So don't even think about it ;-)

I wish I knew someone. I would have chopped off fingers to get this when I was a kid. I had to settle for a $75 Meade.

Nice machine, I'd love to have had one as a kid.

I think most kids these days are busy wearing baggy pants, their white hats on sideways, pretending to be black, and jerking off to stupid video games.

I sure hope that telescope finds a good home, keep trying!!

My sons Sam and Torin are heavy into that stuff. Sam is in the APSU S.T.E.M. Academy(a high school gifted program for Montgomery COunty's brightest 36 students, sponsored by APSU) He holds straight A's and has since kindergarten with a perfect record in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math(STEM).
Torin reads college level astronomy books, and has read at that level since two years ago when he pulled 'Einstein's Telescope' off a shelf at Border's. His 3.89 GPA in Middle School is close to assuring him entry into STEM in the mext two years as well. He LOVES the cosmos, and will challenge anyone to debate over it's contents.
Torin would kill for a telescope like that, and my current half pay won't cover anything like that until I graduate in Spring 2014 and get a job at either the VA or the Army Hospital.
Tha is a seriously nice piece of kit!(Torin just said,"WOW!")
