Today is ANZAC Day here in New Zealand and Australia. Originally a day to remember the soldiers who deployed to Turkey and fought in the Gallipoli campaign in 1915 and celebrate those who returned, it has evolved into a day of remembrance for all soldiers of the southern commonwealth who've died in combat. As an US Army combat veteran living in NZ for the past few years, I've made it a habit of attending the dawn ceremony here in the capital each year to pay my respects. Honor among soldiers.

In my graduate studies we had a large focus on Gallipoli in a class called Amphibious Warfare. I did a huge research paper on the topic and have to say it changed the world of amphibious doctrine for many countries.
