A huge THANK YOU, goes out to APA, Kasey at Accushot and Todd and Tom at Manners for the fastest rebuild ever!

Last month I sent in my barreled action into APA to yank off my old Broughton that served me well for 3300 rounds and install a Rock that I had for when the barrel went south. I was quoted by Jered and Mark about a 2-3 week turnaround time on a rebarrel. I kinda blew it off as we all know that high demand smiths are super duper busy and that stuff comes in that needs immediate attention getting our stuff pushed back. Well, that is my expectation at least and I am fine with that, as I know my shit will be done right and I hate it when people rush me and I will not put a rush on others. About 2 to 2.5 weeks go by and I get a call from APA. My barreled action is ready! WTF, are you serious? I really thought it was a joke they were playing on me when they said it was done. Looks like Mark is turning things around at APA and they are getting stuff out the door fast. I think it helped that I didn't need to order anything, almost everything was labor (chamber, thread muzzle and paint) except for I wanted a LB brake installed. No group pics, but is it really needed? APA built it!

Onto the paint. As many of the other shooters that shoot with me know, I am one picky bastard when it comes to the looks of a rifle. Yes, I know looks is not everything, but for my money, I want it to look good too. Well, to me at least.

I contacted Todd over at Manners for his turnaround time on multicam paint job. It was one of the few camo patterns that I actually like. I knew it would take some time to do as there are about 6 different colors that needs to be used for the finish. I was kinda anxious about how it would come out. I have seen other multicam paint jobs that I wasn't too thrilled about, but it wasn't painted by Todd. Needless to say, I couldn't be happier with the way the stock came out!

The last thing I sent off was my Atlas bipod for the upgrade from V7 to V8. Well, I almost forgot about it and sent it in about a week and half after the barreled action and stock went out. I wasn't expecting it back so soon since I think I read somewhere that the new V8s were delayed a little. No biggie, I have a crappy Harris that I can use in the mean time. I guess it was for only the new ones since I got the upgrade back in about a week. And for anyone on the fence about upgrading, DO IT!!!

Sorry for long winded post, and post about timelines. I am a project manager and everything is timed!

So, what are you going to feed the new 7WSM? I just got done with load development on mine and am interested in what you have planned for yours.

    Awsome looking set up BTW

    Re: APA 7WSM Rebuild Complete!!!!

    Thanks guys!

The build up because others will ask.

    Stiller Tac 30 WSM action
    Longrifles Inc. bolt shroud modification
Rock 8.7 twist M40 contour finished at 25", APA Little Bastard Brake at the end, throated for 180 Bergers
Badger M5 bottom metal and the mags have been modified for longer OAL
    Badger 34mm High rings
    Premier 5-25x56
Manners T2A, multicam by Todd (30calsniper) of Manners
All metal work and bedding have been done at APA
Atlas V8 bipod with a Accushot rail
    Timney 510 trigger

Only other things that I want for it is a TAB Gear biathlon sling and I also have a TBAC 30P-1 on order. It just has to show up at the shop and for me to send in the F4. I have a couple thousand Berger 182gr XLR to shoot, the ones they had on special a couple of months back. I hear they are going to put them into production, I am not sure. I am not even sure on the BC of these yet. I also have several hundred 180gr JLKs and Bergers left. I might mess with those later down the road. I hate having to load develope. Surprisingly, it is looking like the load with the old barrel (66.5gr of 4831SC)is close to the load with this barrel. I will have to load up some more and confirm later on this week.

It recoils as much as a AR15 now.

Nice rifle, and an even better paint job. Can't wait to see it in person. I'll be sending my 223ai deer rifle to him for painting.

    Re: APA 7WSM Rebuild Complete!!!!

That's a great looking rifle, and I can only imagine how well it shoots. I'm envious!

Is 3300 round barrel life standard for 7WSMs? I thought it was the 2000-2400 range. If you can get over 3k rounds through a 7WSM, that's pretty solid. The barrel life is the only thing holding me back from ordering one myself. Is 3.3k fairly common?

    Re: APA 7WSM Rebuild Complete!!!!

It depends on how you load it. The previous barrel, I only shot moly coated bullets and wasn't pushing the bullets that hard. It would also depend on what kind of accuracy you are looking for. I would have sent it in earlier if I shot for groups, but I usually don't. The only reason I sent it in is because, last month we were suppose to shoot steel at the 600 yard line but the grass was too tall so we moved to the 300 to shoot paper. Well my groups were shit and I had a the spare barrel on hand already so I sent it in. Could I have redone my load to make it shoot again? I don't know. I have used the same load for pretty much the whole life of the barrel. Would cleaning have helped? Doubtful. There might be 150-200 rounds down the tube since the last cleaning. I have read of several people getting around the 3K mark on their barrels with a 7WSM. But I don't think those people are using them to shoot groups with.
