Hell yeah! New Best!

Well, it was April so I guess I'll put it here too. Besides, I really don't think I'm topping it any time soon. Especially with Carter shooting too damn good!

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

I usually shoot at 110 yards, but I had the pleasure this weekend of shooting at 100 yards at my ranch. If the wind were a little more cooperative, I think I would have been capable of even better, but this is a personal best, so I am not complaining.

Here you go:
Name: Carter Mayfield
Class: Scope
Rifle: Remington 40X Custom
Caliber: .22LR
Ammo: Eley Match
Match: 100YP-TQ4
Score: 250-19X

I hope to make it to 200 yards later this month, but winds have been absolutely killer lately. I don't think we have seen a day where we didn't have winds over 20 and always gusty. Makes things a little rough. Good practicing weather, but not a good time to shoot for record. BTW, I found a wind database by NOAA that is pretty cool. I need to find an appropriate place to post it. It shows average wind by month for about 250 cities as well as the annual average.

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

Amazing shooting Carter. I should be posting soon enough in the 100YP and maybe 100YB, but I'm sure I won't be able to touch your score! The weather here in Michigan has been, well, michigan weather. Last week, it approached 90º. It's been rainy and blowing wind all this week. Today it was snowing? Yep, that's Michigan. I'll be happy if I keep them all in the 8 ring...

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

Thanks guys I have to say I did have perfect conditions and I think some luck too. Is it repeatable time will tell. I doubt I will do so well @ 200 as my wind reading skills need alot of work. I would also like to thank you guys for sparking my interest with this thread my range only goes to 200 yds. and honestly I was getting kinda bored shootting the "BIG GUNS" at that distance. Now I can't wait to try it with the 22

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

You will find that shooting 22LR at 200 is a pretty good simulation for long range. Wind becomes very important and there is enough distance to judge the wind at multiple points.

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

I'll second that. 200 yards is challenging and fun. Now I'm 10 minutes away from a 100 yard range. But back up in NY I was 10 minutes away from a 300 yard range. Made for some very good training.

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

I went prone @ 100 this AM and didn't do so well. 25 for 25 on the gong but my score targets aren't great(247 14x). I need to move my scope forward to get a more comfortable position and more practice. I'm thinking a sling might help too any thoughts?

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

A sling is helpful when in prone unsupported, and the other 3 positions. It works by "locking" the gun onto your palm, and then setting your arm in such a way as to support it. Very difficult without a sling. If you have a bipod, however, then using a sling is only necessary for kneeling, sitting, and standing. You probably wouldn't see much from using a sling AND a bipod or sand bag.

My 2¢

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

I might try this tomorrow. I have not had much practice @ 100Y for groups, but was hitting 3" steel @ 130y fairly consistently. Will be interesting how well I do holding the butt of the gun with my hand vs a rear bag.

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

Well I just picked up a brick of CCI Std. Velocity, so I actually have enough ammo to sight in AND do record fire haha. Great shooting to all competitors so far! I'll be happy if my scores are above a 150 lol.

Wind was 0-5mph, varying direction. X-count sucks, but I'm happy with the results anyway.

April 2010 Match

Fired: 15 April 2010

Name: El_Kabong
Class: S (Tasco @ 14x)
Rifle: Model Five Remington
Caliber: .22LR
Ammo: Golden Eagle
Match: 100YP-TQ4
Score: 240-07x

Range Report/Notes:

April: 100 yards TQ4 target. Kind of stuck in a rut, another 240.07. I shot another TQ4 right after the score posted and came up with a 244.07. I really tried to concentrate on fundamentals, plotted shots, tried to increase focus. I still dumped one round into the 8-ring. I don't know what it is, I always dump one or two into the 8!

200 yards A21 target – didn't get to shoot at 200 this month, just ran out of time. I had to get some load testing done for a .223, and a new .308; hopefully back to the long range next month.

Thanks to all that participated this month, and your input in the learnings thread. Looking at the different styles of rifles and ammos being used both in the long range and short range matches and the tips and tricks shared, it's turning out to be a good source of information. Thanks to JOE MARTIN for starting it last year.

Again, CARTER MAYFIELD was the man in the prone division.

NEOSHOOTER, a new shooter to the matches, was the man off the bench. Welcome to the matches, looks as if you are to be a force to reckon with in the future. I figured no harm no foul on his mentioning of a prone score, but try to put it in the regular format so it's not looked over and missed.

Of course in the .17 cal, SMALLBORESNIPER posted a great score as always, it would be nice to see some more "teeners" there.

CLODHOPPER (3.5" gong), THE HOFF and NEOSHOOTER (2.5" gong) the top dogs in the 100 yard gongs.

We picked up a few more shooters, a big welcome to NEOSHOOTER and TRAVIS MIHM.

Looks like no one made it to 200 yards this month, we'll see what next month brings. This could be the most shooters we have had, although still not as many as there could be, hopefully that number will grow next month.

"<span style="font-weight: bold">MAY</span>" you shoot straight in May!

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

I should have put some 200 yd shots out there, but I ate up a couple of sessions shooting for Smack the Smiley. Awesome shooting, Neoshooter! That is a SH 100 yard record. You need to challenge me for the 200 yard record.

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

about the corse of fire?
just pick any of the printable targets and then chose 1 2 or 3 hy?
25 shots. per target
photo and post?
or is there more structure?

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

there's a link on the sticky that is titled "may sh 100 to 300 yard rimfire competitons" that has all of that layed out.

generally, pick a yardage or even two, get a corresponding target as described in the rules section for the distance, pick prone bench or even both, 25 shots, and there ya go.

post your scores as described, and since a picture is worth a thousand words, a photo is nice, but not required.

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

This was a blast, and I hope to have better May scores in the 100 TQ and gongs and if I have the opportunity, a 200 target this month now that I have a decent cheek weld. Up until yesterday my cheek weld was more of a chin weld.

Thanks to all who put this on and participated. To those reading, you really need to try this. Even my girlfriend got addicted to it!

Re: APRIL 2010 SH 100 TO 300 YD RIMFIRE COMPETITION

Just gotta say I had a blast doing this. Not sure if I'm gonna be able to shoot the May Comp I'm in the process of moving and all my time is being ate up with packing and working. Maybe I'll get a chance to sneak out and give Carter a run for his money LOL. Sorry about the "Improper Score Format"
whistle.gif
I wasn't counting it just using it as a reference compared to my bench score. But hey I'll take it.

Good luck to everybody In May !!
