Hi all FNG here,
I just ordered an AR-10 national match via buds gun shop. My only hesitation in ordering this rifle was its weight and am now wondering what I could do to lighten it up down the road. My first thought was to buy a shorter fluted barrel or have the one it comes with cut and fluted, any thoughts?

Re: AR-10 Barrel fluting question

I asked about fluting to a custom builder here on this sight. the answer I received was that "Fluting saves about 6 - 8 oz. depending on barrel length". (In an AR10 barrel profile).
He further stated that it is definitely noticeable in handling and balance.

I don't have personal experience in this area, just forwarding info that I received from a reputable builder.

Re: AR-10 Barrel fluting question

You can also get dimpling done. I had Marvin Pitts of Nefarious Arms dimple my barrel in a more dense pattern than ADCO does. It took about a half pound off an 18" Noveske SS barrel. He did good work and it was exactly what I asked for, but for the cost I'm not sure I'd do it again

Re: AR-10 Barrel fluting question

Thats exactly what I wanted and looked but couldn't find one. My understanding is it was a limited production run, 16" heavy barrel.

I will take a look at the other fluting/dimple suggestions, thanks.

As for now I am so damn excited to get my hands on my new AR I can hardly stand it, never owned a gun of this grade and all my buds are gearing up and I am sporting a 22 at the range...lol
