Sorry if this topic has been hit before but I searched as much as I could and couldn't find too much on this comparison or review wise and I don't really wanna run around ar15.com.

I've been looking for an ar15 in 5.56. I have come down to a few choices unless someone can point me in a different direction.

Barret Rec7
LWRC line (not sure which. Help on this would be appreciated as well)
POF line

If anyone could help me out with their experiences or name some other companies they recommend. ...and go!

Re: AR 15 Choices

Any of those you've mentioned will serve you well. If you're open to building your own, you can go that route and save yourself a ton of money that could be well spent on glass.

Re: AR 15 Choices

It all starts with what you want to do with it. There's so many different possibilities, each with their own purpose, that you can tailor make your rifle to your shooting style. While there's cross-discipline blending, there really isn't a one size fits all setup. However, the advantage is if you build your lower to be practical to most, you can swap out uppers to whatever your flavor of the moment is.

Just remember the rifle's accuracy will mostly come from the barrel and trigger, and the rest is up to you driving it right and feeding it quality ammo. For anything precision, I only run premium stainless steel barrels. Optics choice is another big decision and a direct reflection on what you want to do with it.

The three companies you've mentioned are all good, but I like going to some of the smaller names or building my own. My MK12 is from Centurion Arms and is currently my favorite AR. Two others that will get my future business is High Caliber Sales and Specialized Dynamics. The lowers I assemble myself. Picking out your own specific parts and putting them all together is half the fun.

Re: AR 15 Choices

I'm a huge LMT fan myself. I particulary like the MRP platform guns. The main reason I dig the MRP's over aftermarket quad rail systems is there is no play/flexing in the rail systems. There are good deals out there right now for $1350 out the door with no wait time. They MSRP on LMT's website for about 500 bucks more.

Re: AR 15 Choices

I really like Noveske,

I think they have the barrels and complete rigs to do anything from in your face to needing 16x to see the target.

I have recived very awesom customer service

Last, if it will ever be suppressed, SWITCHBLOCK !

Re: AR 15 Choices

Thanks for all your help so far everyone. I guess I should've known I'd get the response, "it depends what you're using it for." So here goes...I honestly would like the best all-around rifle possible. I'm new to semi-auto. I currently shoot a GAP Hospitaller. Money's not really all that much of an issue since I'm sure I'll be putting upgrades into it rather soon and would like as close to the best that would fit me, or something I can grow into. But I would rather have a complete package...a rifle that I can use to hunt little fuzzy wuzzies with, shoot at the range, one day use in tactical competition, etc. Is it possible to have a rifle this diverse? Hopefully the answer is yes. Switching uppers was never really a thought of mine, but maybe that would be a cool option to have in the future. And to some building may be half of the fun, but to me all the fun is in shooting it, and I'm not really confident in my abilities to build one myself. Maybe that's why it's not fun to me. I've messed up quite a many projects trying DYI projects. Maybe order a custom rifle from someone? Thanks again for your thoughts, opinions, and experiences.

Re: AR 15 Choices

For GP shooting while still getting some good accuracy, I'd look at a RECCE or SPR style 16-18" setup.

Call or PM Scottmilk9 with Specialized Dynamics and he can set you right up. If you want something more military oriented, go with KJO at High Caliber Sales. Either builder can put you together one hell of a nice setup at a fair price.

Re: AR 15 Choices

I looked into building my own years ago. After talking with several custom builders who have built match winning AR's i was basically told that anything you put together yourself is just an assembly of parts. If you are after a really accurate AR a custom builder is the way to go. They can machine their own barrel nuts to exacting tolerances that you don't get with off the shelf parts. I assembled my own lower to save money and had an upper built by Robert Whitley that put 5 shots into .115" and was holding better than 3/4 moa at 550 yds.
