I have a Rock River upper and lower I put together. I have BCM barrel, bolt assy and RRA 2 stage trigger. I took it out yesterday and was shooting Winchester 55gr 5.56
My problem is the spent cases would not eject. I had to manually eject each spent round. Did this for 15 rounds and decided to start asking questions.

Any ideas???
Thanks all

+1 on the above questions from damoncali. Do you mean that the rifle would NOT cycle at all and you had to pull the CH back to eject the spent case manually and feed the next round? What specifically was the malfunction.

If the rifle was not cycling at all, its a gas system problem in one aspect or another, so start there. Double-check that the gas tube is properly installed in the gas block and that there are no obstructions in the tube. Then check that the gas block is properly installed on the barrel (i.e. - the gas block is lined up with the gas port on your BCM barrel and is properly torqued down or otherwise installed correctly). Next, check your carrier key to ensure that it is locked down tight on the carrier and not loose (~50in/lbs per various mfgs...not sure re: RRA's spec).

Take off your gas block and look at the way the carbon is around the gas port that will tell you if you have it lined up properly. Also what length barrel and gas system?

I have found that quite often, failures to EJECT (when extraction is fine) can be traced back to an overpowerful extractor spring. The extractor pushes the case hard against the oposite side of the bolt face, so the ejector can't push it out of it's recess in the bolt during the cycling of the rifle. You can check this with an empty case and your bolt. If you hook a case inside the bolt recess, and it easily flies out when you release pressure to hold it in, you are probably OK. If there is ANY hangup getting the empty case to be flipped out of the bolt by the ejector, then check try reducing extractor pressure. Also insure that your ejector moves freely inside the bolt.

If the ejector and extractor work right, then I would start looking at the rifle having too much, or not enough gas into the system.

Check bolt rings, the gas key on the bolt, and of course the gas block and gas port from the barrel. On rare occasions, people get goop from cleaning their rifle into the gas port and it clogs up the port. Usually a good blast of gun scrubber through the gas tube will clear stuff out.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I got called away to Kansas for training and just check my thread.
After the round was fired the spent case would not eject on its own. I had to pull on the charging handle to eject case manually. I'll check the gas tube and block and start from there to see what is wrong.
