well heres the problem,

I got the ar 15 out yesterday (been in storage for awhile) to shoot go it on sunday. I looked the gun over and everything seemed fine. But then i pulled the charging handle all the way back and let it go then i tried to pull the trigger and it wouldn't go all the way back. it wont release the hammer or anything. then i tried to put it on safe and the switch wont move at all.

Has anyone ever had this problem? any ideas for a solution? I can't get any pictures up right now sorry. if you need more info or pictures, i can post it later today. (oh and not sure if this should have been in semi auto or gunsmithing).

thanks.

Re: ar 15 trigger problem..

Takeoff the top reciever, check hammer ( be gentle and slowly depress triger and cushin the hammer. Who made the trigger could also help give us an idea. There might be something obstructing the release. If hammer doesnt release your probably gonna have to take out the system. A punch set is recommended for this part. As for safety, fiddle with it and use some rem oil, kano, breakfree or grease. Let us know what u find.

Re: ar 15 trigger problem..

well this is weird..

I looked at it just now. I took the upper off and was holding the lower looking inside at the trigger area and turned the lower upside down to see if maybe something had fallen in there and was obstructing the trigger. Then I shook the lower (while it was upside down) then pulled the trigger and the hammer released and everything. so i put the upper back on and pulled the charging handle back and now everything works how it used to.

I didn't see anything fall out or mess with any pins, etc. I have no idea what happened but now it works.

Thanks for the suggestions and it's a Colt Sporter Target model with a 20in. (i think) heavy barrel with a factory trigger.

Re: ar 15 trigger problem..

If you are shooting reloads, it is quite possible that you lost a primer and it was under the trigger. I have had that happen to me before, so you may have had the same thing.

Glad to hear that it is working correctly again!!

Re: ar 15 trigger problem..

Well here's an update.. I was thoroughly cleaning my room for the last few days and when I was picking up larger pieces of debris along the bottom of my walls I found a spent primer which I assume came from the ar so that must have been the problem. However, I'd still like to know how it got in there in the first place.. oh well.
