So I have a 16" psa mforgery sitting in my safe I got in a trade. I don't really care for a 16" barrel. Should I use this upper and rebarrel it or just buy another upper that's already set up like I want it? I can see the advantage of having multiple uppers but I don't really see myself switching back to the 16".

IMO that depends on what the make up of the current upper you have is and what is salvageable for use with the other barrel length. If all you're going to end up using is the upper itself and not the handgaurds/rails or anything else, it doesn't seem worth it to me to scrap all the parts just to reuse the cheapest major part of the rifle, the receiver itself. You can get a non m4 feedramped AeroPrecision upper for $90, a no name one from DSG for $81, or BCM can be had for $119. So if you're going to discard the rest of the components of a complete upper just to save $90...

You're already planning on spending X dollars for a new complete upper, spend the $90 + your planned upper build cost and you could have 2 complete uppers . Again that depends on what you can salvage/reuse from he current upper.

ETA if you're MIL or LEO DSG has some of the deepest discounts on some items of any store I shop. Its not a flat % on all items, its a per item discount. For example that upper linked above from them is $61 with mil discount whereas other items have no discount at all. Rainier also has good discounts for MIL

Well shit. I want a 20" ar-15 and I wouldn't mind picking up one in a 6.8 for a little more horsepower. I really don't want to start a build I have a dozen firearms in various stages of disassembly already. Anyone have a recommendation on a upper that meets my wants and costs close to what the model 1 upper does?

WOA is 3-6 months wait. Forget that noise. I don't really care about light fast bullets, I prefer a heavier bullet. I have been reading up on the difference between the spec I and spec II, I really don't see myself trying to squeeze every last ounce of speed out of this thing. I want a semi auto truck gun that isn't a 223 or an AK but doesn't cost more than my truck like some of my other rifles.

So my question is, will the spec I with a 1:9.5 twist accurately shoot a 130 grain bullet for use on critters, 2 and 4 legged?
